Qnap TS 509 - 5 bay NAS
Hi,
saw the news on Computex that the TS509 will be announced during the show, is QNAP going to post more info on this? looking forward to the new model
some queries
1. what's the spec?
2. is the RAM upgradeable? Understand from other forumers that they encounter issues with the limited RAM on 409
3. any expected launch date and price?
Press release
http://www.qnap.com.tw/PressRelease_detail.asp?pr_id=86
In the COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2008, QNAP is going to introduce our upcoming high performance 5-bay TS-509 Turbo NAS, which supports up to 5TB storage capacity, advanced RAID 1/ 5/ 6 disk volumes, failover, load balancing and multi-IP settings for optimal network resource utilization. We will also unveil the 1U TS-409U Turbo NAS, the best choice for rack mount storage solution in terms of price/ratio performance with the abundant features inherited from QNAP's all-in-one Turbo NAS series.

silver one is a beauty one
black one can be good but only when mixing with not shining black and shining black
eg. the case is not shining black, but horizontal stripe is going from front to rear with shining black
and than this would be lovely one ;D

QNAP has also this year brought a number of interesting NAS units the Computex. The TS-509 Pro is a 5-bay NAS unit that can be configuered by a control display on the front of the casing.
Furthermore the TS-509 Pro offers support for Raid 0, Raid 1, Raid 5 + spare and JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks). It is very positive that QNAP has added an 1.6 GHz Mobil Intel processor and 1 GB of DDR2 memory. The TS-509 Pro also comes with 2 LAN ports for load balancing, failover and Multi-LAN. Finally they have integrated an on/off scheduler, so you can decide that the NAS should startup or shutdown during the day - you might aswell save power when you do not need the box.
The TS-509 NAS unit also has a build-in Bit-Torrent client, a Surveilance mode - in which you can record video and keep a look-out for the area surrounding the NAS by the use of up to 4 IP cameras. Furhermore you can easily build and maintain a website running from the NAS by the use of the Content Management System Joomla.

I'm looking forward to buy this unit too.
I certainly hope the price is reasonable and affordable too.

Oh bugger, and I've just bought a TS-409 Pro....
Like when I bought my 4th gen iPod - a week later Apple announced the iPod video. I don't seem to have much luck!
The TS-509 looks far more featured than the TS-409, especially the extra horsepower and memory. However 1) how much will it cost 2) how much power does it consume.

Totally agree with Q.
Nevertheless, we do hope Qnap will price it affordable for us to buy it.
