Diff for TS-469 Pro, QNAP TS-459 Pro II and QNAP TS-459 Pro+
Hello,
I have the following inquiry and please help to make the decision for the QNAP NAS, thanks.
1. What is the different and relationship of TS-469 Pro, QNAP TS-459 Pro II and QNAP TS-459 Pro+ as they are quite similar?
2. Which one is the latest model and will they phase out very soon?
3. Will they have the new successor model in this year?
4. What is the usage of the HDMI for TS-469 Pro?
5. If I want to have a 4 bay NAS with ATOM (x86) CPU, which one is the best option?
Thanks and regards

They are quite similar check out the 4-Bay Comparison Chartpatricklee99 wrote:I have the following inquiry and please help to make the decision for the QNAP NAS, thanks.

Note: For some reason the TS-469 Pro is on the right rather than the left of the chart.

Three generaitons of hardware - you sorted newest to older ones. Difeence is about six to nine months in the original release date.patricklee99 wrote:1. What is the different and relationship of TS-469 Pro, QNAP TS-459 Pro II and QNAP TS-459 Pro+ as they are quite similar?
Depend what is "phase-out" for you. Only the TS-469 Pro manufactured now, other models are sold from stock, ie. distributor and reseller.patricklee99 wrote:2. Which one is the latest model and will they phase out very soon?
Crystall Ball not available. Development and lifecycle of the processors is an ongoing process ... so every six to twelfe months things will change. TS-x69 Pro are available in vovlumes for about a month now, folowed by the rack-mounted TS-x69U models now.patricklee99 wrote:3. Will they have the new successor model in this year?
Actually none ...QNAP has presented some kind of media player options around Computex 2012, including the leading media stations like XBMC, Boxee, ... Don't know what wil finally make it.patricklee99 wrote:4. What is the usage of the HDMI for TS-469 Pro?
Depends on your need and on how attractive the older models are in the market, ie. lack of USB 3.0 (459+), lack of HDMI (ie. 459 Pro II).patricklee99 wrote:5. If I want to have a 4 bay NAS with ATOM (x86) CPU, which one is the best option?

Thanks for all yours information.
Is that mean it is the same to buy TS-469 Pro and TS-459 Pro II as the HDMI is meaningless and TS-459 Pro II with a cheaper price, thanks?
Best regards.

HDMI is meaningless today but may be used in future firmwares. If you intend to use the NAS for media and can have it placed near a HDMI display, it may be useful to you in the future.patricklee99 wrote:Is that mean it is the same to buy TS-469 Pro and TS-459 Pro II as the HDMI is meaningless...
- TS-469 Pro have a 18 % higher processor clock frequency, so a bit faster but it does consume slightly more power.
- TS-469 Pro have one more USB 2.0 port and both USB 3.0 ports at the back (TS-459 Pro II have one USB 3.0 port on the front and one on the back).
- TS-469 Pro supports 1 surveillance camera with up to 12 at additional cost and have an improved surveillance software (TS-459 Pro II supports 4 cameras currently and will get the improved software later).
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!
A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.
All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!

Hi ptarick,
The differences are:
469 Pro: SATA 6Gb/s, LCD, lockable HDD tray
469L: SATA 3Gb/s, without LCD, non-lockable HDD tray
The rest are the same. (e.g. CPU, RAM, USB ports)

Sorry to cross-post, but I've had this query on the PS3 server forum for about a week with no response....
Postby User3 » Mon Aug 06, 2012 6:01 pm
Hi,
I have a TS-209 II that is streaming video to either of 2 PS3's. It works ok, no major issues except for the slowness of the CPU in the NAS forcing me to convert MKV's. I notice that there are two new (?) units with faster CPUs. Does anyone have any info as to the possibility of streaming MKV's directly? i.e. transcoding on the fly? This is TS-259 and TS-269.
Second question-
If I do add a TS-259 or 269 to get the faster CPU, what is the likelyhood of being able to stream from the original TS-209 thru the 259/269 to view MKV's?? The network is a small 6 node LAN in a residence. It's using all gigahertz equipment although some of the cables will likely need to be redone as the RJ-45 jacks are a bit suspect looking to my untrained eye. (a lot of distance from the plastic to the start of the shielding, like about 3 mm or so).
Any thoughts? Is the 269 out yet? Does anyone have an opinion regarding the different CPU speeds and transcoding on the fly?
Thanks.

Hi User3,
1. TS-259 Pro+ & TS-269 Pro use the much more powerful 1.8Ghz & 2.13Ghz dual core CPU with 1GB RAM. So definitely you can run PS 3 media server with on the fly transcoding enabled (1 client at a time)
2. You can install Twonky v7 on your QNAP TS-269 Pro, and then uses its "content aggregation" feature to auto collect and show local media server files to your PS3 (your TS-209 must also have Twonky Server enabled for streaming).
3. TS-269 Pro is already available for purchase in many resellers near you.

"New Content Aggregation Feature Makes Viewing Media Seamless
TwonkyServer includes a new feature that enables users to aggregate media located on multiple PCs or other media servers throughout the home into one cohesive view. Unlike iTunes or Windows Media Player, users no longer need to manually switch between servers or worry about where media is stored; it simply appears all in one place on the computer or supported devices on the network. Users can choose to automatically aggregate all newly discovered media servers, or manually select which servers on the network are included. If a media file is stored on multiple devices in the home, the solution acts intuitively and can hide duplicate files from the library, helping users make sense of their media collections and manage their libraries more efficiently."

For HDD compatibility questions, please consult the QNAP HDD Compatibility List - the WD Red are listed here: http://www.qnap.com/en/index.php?lang=en&sn=3877
WD - NAS Hard Drives - WD Rred - Compatibility has listed them under the preamble:

Most likley, this is simply to protect the "higher end" market for thier enterprise drives. Technically there is nothing that stops us from using these in larger NAS, too.WD Red NAS hard drives have been extensively tested for compatibility in 1-5 bay NAS systems in our FIT labs and AVL qualified with these key partners.

TS-469
...
Memory: 1GB DDR3 (Expandable RAM, up to 3GB)
Memory replaceable: Compatible with DDR3 1066 DRAM
Number of SODIMM slots: 2
...
The Intel Atom C2700 processor does support DRAM of up to 4 GB total - the maximum for all currently known Atom CPUs is 2 TB per SODIM AFAIK.

Hi patricklee99,
The TS-x69 is shipped with DDR3 1333 1GB RAM pre-installed.
Using the untested Kingston RAM may or may not work, you will just have to try it or check the community feedback.
