what is manarequest.cgi?

Postby Todai » Wed Sep 26, 2012 7:00 am

I have been having issues with the performance of my TS-419P II so I called the tech support and they found a process on my NAS called manarequest.cgi that is taking up a lot of CPU. They didn't have any idea what it was and were going to do a little research for me. Does anyone know what this is from? Thanks.

...and of course you have seen the manaRequest.cgi process(es) in System Status >> Ressource Monitor 8)

It's the data collection process doing the Ressource Monitor (CPU Usage, Memory Usage, ..., Processes). So a chicken and egg problem. Use Linux command shell if you don't want to see side effects of the Web UI processing.

I have noticed this also on my TS-419P II. And I also have performance issues with this system. There are up to 4 entries for manarequest.cgi in the resource monitor, but it goes down to 2 after a while. Still confusing how this all works, why can't there be one instance an that is it?

If not even the qnap people know what is going on, this is not a good sign. The vendor should know the details.

There is a lot of information made available - direct visible or hidden - in the QTS desktop. All this data must be captured and prepared on the NAS in the background, and for applying administration changes.

Are these processes becoming CPU-bound, becoming a major load on your NAS?

Thats B.S. - QNAP does certainly know for what purpose each processes is in place and active when required. There was one minor issue with this cgi which could have made it to a resource hog (CPU and/or memory), fixed more than two years ago. The faster the NAS, the less are these manarequest.cgi becoming visible.
