I am looking to upgrade my 259 pro soon and the 470 looks perfect....

But Jason are you saying there will be a 4 bay x79 model coming soon as well?

Also do you think in the future Qnap will support say Plex Home Theatre client for the HD station as well as XBMC? Plex in many ways is actually better than XBMC...

Also Jason can it only decode 4K video via HDMI? Or can it push 4K video to a DLNA connected client?

The next NAS purchase I make I want to make sure it has 10gbe and can decode 4K video so the 470 sounds perfect for both things that will last me a few years at least!!

Cheers,

Packetboy.

Hi Packetboy,
there will be no TS-479 Pro.
The local playback 4K support is for compressed 4K video files, not raw 4K.

What is the difference between compressed and raw?

Jason,

Is the i3 embedded (soldered version)?
You mentioned that the so-dimm can be replaced. How many so-dimm slots does it have?
You mentioned that the x79 has better parts. Which parts are you talking about (only chipset)?

I'm about to sell my 659 Pro+ and wait and order a 670. I'm thinking of replacing the CPU with a 3770t (Lower TDP, +8% single threaded, +101% multi threaded) and upgrade memory to the max.
TS-870 upgraded with i7 3770t and 16GB F3-1600C10D-16GSQ kit, replaced LAN-1G2T-D with Intel I350-T4.
6x 2TB Samsung HD203WI in RAID 5 with Samsung 480GB MZ7WD480HAGM-00003 as SSD Cache.
NAS firmware 4.2.0 Build 20150716.

Just found out about the TS-470 Pro (while researching the TS-469L, actually). Pretty stoked about the feature set! Are the earlier mentioned ETA (August 2013) and MSRP of $1000 verified/confirmed?

I have not seen anything official from Qnap or a press release yet. I keep checking the Qnap home page daily to see if they've announced it. Hopefully we should know before the end of the month when they will ship.

If you use Chrome, check out the Page Monitor extension. It monitors websites in the background and will notify you if (a portion of) the page has changed. If you use Firefox there's an addon called Update Scanner that does the same.

yes, the internal hardware parts are different between x79 & x70.
x79 still has better components over x70 and can support Xeon CPUs
Interesting. Hoever, right now these x79 series are still schipper with Dual Core i3 processors. Will that be changed in the future to Xeon or is this a customer upgrade?

Thanks in advance

I'd also like to know. I'm in the market for a 6 bay device and if I don't hear much soon about the qnap then another vendor it will be! :)

I feel a TS-469 becoming available for 2nd hand sale if the playback / tearing issues are solved in x70 series :D

Sounds like this model will be a nice little piece of kit ... I am curious to know if anyone has an idea if this one will support HDMI pass through for the audio as I understand the current models don't
