Support for new Western Digital 2TB drives? (WD20EADS)

Postby Chaskel » Thu Feb 05, 2009 1:44 pm

Hi, I have been anxiously been awaiting the release of the 809 Pro series system and am wondering if once it is released if it will support the new Western Digital 2TB drives (WD20EADS)? Also will the 639 Pro support these drives any time soon?

Thank you.

Dear Chaskel:
Thanks for your inquiry.
We need to verify & comfirm the compatibility after we have the new WD model on hand.
If it pass, the compatibility testing, we should support:
TS-809 Pro, up to 16TB.
TS-639 Pro, up to 12TB.
TS-439 Pro, up to 8TB.

We will update the compatibility once we get the new HDD.
Cheers,

Hi Ivan,

Will the TS-409 Pro support the new WD 2TB drives? What's the biggest HDD you can use for RAID5 in a TS-409 Pro with the current firmware?

Hi Chris,

Since we have not had the WD 2TB drive yet, therefore, we will need to verify it first. (and will do as soon as we can)

for TS-409 series, the biggest HDD we have ever tested so far is 1.5TB (Seagate), and basically it's compatible with the QNAP NAS. Although there was a freezing problem with this drive (check this post http://techreport.com/discussions.x/15863), but it should has been fixed by Seagate now.

Count me in..
If synology DS-508 confirms support this drive first I might even considder them. But im hoping the TS-509 wil support it first :) Thumbs up.

Hi,

I was just wondering when you think we may hear back as far as if these drives will be compatible. I'm really anxious to purchase an 809 Pro however am holding off until 2TB drives are supported.

I'm fine with whatever the answer is. I'm just looking for an idea as to when I need to spend the money. :)

Thank you.

are the 2tb drives already available in your country? i still can't get it in switzerland.

qnap can confirm it as soon as they got it in taiwan... and that depends when WD can deliver.

i mean it's almost sure that it will work in a 809 and 509 (at least with a fw update) but only a real test can confirm it 100%.

Interesting... When I first looked I was seeing this item in stock but now everyone does not have it. So either it was never in stock to being with or they all got bought up. :) Currently I am seeing ship-to dates of beginning to mid-March from some of the places I looked at today.

So I guess I'll keep waiting for now. :)

Thanks

Is there any updates as to whether the QNAP NAS support 2TB drives (ie. Western Digital's)?
I would specifically like to know regarding the QNAP 409 Turbo series as I would like to replace the problematic Seagate 1.5TBs with something newer and more reliabile (ie. 2TB WDs)

Thanks,

Jason
