[Tutorial] How to add files and folders for seed in Qget

Postby thorejoha » Fri May 08, 2009 9:03 pm

Hello

Sometimes I have to seed big folders with pictures for my friends.
Because I dont want to use my computer for this i use Qget.
To make this possible with Qget i have found a way to do it.
I use Utorrent to create the torrent.
If you also need to do this, and wounder HOW TO DO.
Please see the Tutorial

Spinndown:(The Qnas will not go in standby mode when you seed)

Alternativ 1
  1. You will ned some torrent program for this. I use Utorrent http://utorrent.com/downloads
    -
    -
  2. Create torrent with Utorrent and let the Utorrent program stay on with sharing.
    -
    -
  3. Open the torrent you created with in Qget, to download from your local computer to Qget
(The upload goes wery fast in local network 2000kbs-3000kbs )
    -
    -
  4. When Qget starts downloading from Utorrent, you have too use BT download property and seed for 300-400 hour.

TIPS: If the files are small, and you dont have time enough to press the BT property before its downloadet, you can stop the Utorrent before you use the torrent in Qget. Just use exit in the file menu on top the Utorrent.
When you have started Qget and it looks foor seeds you have god time to press the BT priority button.
After you have eabled share/seed time you can start up Utorrent again.
(When I did this, I had too pause the job in Qget and start it again to find it fast
    -
    BT_properties.jpg

    -
    -
  5. This has to be done before the download is finished in Qget.
(Use how many hours you think you need)
    -
    BT_properties2.jpg

    -
    -
  6. After Qget is finished downloading from Utorrent you can close Utorrent.
    -
    -
  7. The Seed is now on Qget and you can upload the Torrent to a torrentplace like piratebay or something.
If you don't want to share your files on piratbay, dont upload the torrent. Go to next step( send to your friends)
    -
    --
  8. Here is one torrent with some pictures of a plase called Stegastein in Norway
This is on my Qnas for 48 Hours for let you testing. download/file.php?id=1255
This torrent have the tracker from piratebay.com, but is not uploaded anyplace. Only here.
    -
    -
  9. If you only want your friends to have the torrent, then use mail, MSN or somthing to send it to them

Is it any way too add torrent uploads to the downloadstation and seed them easyer then this, place let me now??

Alternativ 2

From your tutorial, here is the way i proceed now:

2. Create torrent with Utorrent (without the "start seeding" set) and close utorrent

3. Open the .torrent you created in Qget or BT gui, ...nothing happens but a new folder in Qdownload with the name of your torrent, and a file named your_torrent.fastresume inside it.

4. Change your_torrent property, set DHT option and sharing time

5. Copy all your stuff ( files shared) in to Qdownload/your_torrent_new_folder

6. pause then restart your_torrent, it will discover shared files in Qdownload/your_torrent_new_folder and and set the counter to 100%

7.The seed is now ready for sharing with the friends to whom you mail the .torrent file

Tanks for the great tips. This works wery good

Hi,
Thank you for your tutorial,
i'm very interested in such a way to send huge folder to my friends.

Would you be, please, more explicit
- in step 2 (utorrent), in torrent properties, do i have to configure my nas as a tracker, and what to configure as "sources" or nothing is needed in torrent properties ?
-in step 7 (i do not wish to send my torrent to a public tracker
-in step 8, i wonder how a mail with the torrent file may be used by my friends,
what in the torrent file says that actual files are inside my nas ?

and when the torrrent be active, do my friends will share the seed ?

Hello again
-
-
I will try too answere the best I can.
-
Step 2: Here you see my settings in Utorrent
step_2_utorrent.jpg

-
As you can see, I am using the tracker
Code: Select all
http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce
from Piratebay.
If you Google the internet you will be abel to find some anonyme trackers
-
Here are some other trackers you can use.
I some of my torrents, I use them all.
-
Code: Select all
http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce
http://www.torrent-downloads.to:2710/announce
http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
UDP://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
http://www.sumotracker.com/announce
-
-
Then it looks like this.
You will only see tree on the picture because the tracker box is small.
I think this will make it even easyer to find for the leechers/downloaders.
-
step_2_utorrent_all_trackers.jpg

-
-
-
Step 7: I think you maybe have misunderstand the tracker.
The tracker have on job, and that is too find files from torrents.
Your files will not be visible on Piratebay before you upload the torrent on theyr side.
You dont have to do this. Instead of uploading the torrent, you can send it to your friend.
The files are only possible to get if you have the torrent. Keep your torrents secret
and no one will find it.
Your friend have to use Utorrent to open the file with, if he dont have a download station.
Utorrent do the same job, but you need a computer running with it.
That is the nice thing with Qnas. I does this job on only 14 Watt in a hurry.

Step 8: Here is the answere "They must use a downloader program like Utorrent.
-
what in the torrent file says that actual files are inside my nas ?
Here is the tracker doing the job. As long as a torrentfile i seeded on your Qnas the tracker will find it and tell your friends Utorrent program where to find it.
And if the torrent be opened in Utorrents by your friend, it will start too search for seeders.
If you followed my tutorial and uploaded to Qnas and used BT properties share 300-400 hours
your friend will find one seeder. Thats your Qnas.
-
and when the torrrent be active, do my friends will share the seed ?
They can seed this files/folders in the Utorrent program as long as they want. If you dont want them to seed, tell them to not seed, or dont send them torrents.

I Hope this will help you

Hope you like the pictures of the nice touristplace Stegastein i Norway.
It is just a place to take photos of the fjords.
It is 600 mtr over the sealevel and build almost like a bridge.
But the bridge ends just in the sky.

The policy when you download is to seed longer then you leech.
To se how this work in practic I have created a little downlod experiment about seeding and leeching
You find it here viewtopic.php?f=16&t=14003

Hope as many as possible will take a part of it and have a little fun.

sharing our private stuff with NAS BT task, Pro & cons

Pros:
-easy way to prepare the whole material (folder & files) in one set (with utorrent).
-no user login nor folders access control to be managed by the NAS but only BT /Qdownload content.
-client(friends!) download task may be paused, resumed and restarted by the client as many time as needed.
(resuming torrent task is a well known robust job)
-no PC to be up (day and night) but only the NAS.
-once got (leeched) by a few clients-friends, torrent may be shared and seeded by them, so whole transfer rate becomes higher.
-open tracker site, which locates our NAS, does not have any knowledge of what we share (he did not get the original .torrent file)
-??
-??

Cons:
-files & folders must be stored in BT Qdownload (or other torrent) folder.
-initial .torrent file must be sent to friends as that's the key for them to get the shared stuff.
-friend must install a torrent prog (utorrent,..) as client
-need of an open tracker site which locates the .torrent with IP of our NAS.
-??
-??

??: if you think about others pros & cons ...

Hi guys,

Maybe this is the 3th way to do it or it could be that I see things wrong . But whatever . .

Did all the above and to be honest the Pause and Restart of the torrent did not work quite as well as I hoped so i came to the following.
I am using Ultimate-tORRENTS

1) Create your Torrent as shown above (Do not import it in Qget)
2) upload the torrent to Ultimate-Torrents (or your own site)
3) Copy the data that you want to seed to your nas (same file/foldername as you used to create the torrent see above manual)
4) Import the torrent in Qget
5) It starts checking the files en start seeding.

Tried is 4-5 times and it seams to work for me.
Hope for you to.
