2 Ethernet port config

Post by nigelgourley »

This has been asked a few times but the answer is always kind of off topic.

we have several QNAP's and I want to have one ethernet port connected to the internet and the second port connected to a PC so both the NAS and PC can share with each other but also so both have access to the internet.

I don't any solution that involves an external switch or other device. So port 1 connects to internet , Port 2 connects to PC with no other hardware and the PC has access to the internet and the QNAP

If it's not possible that's fine but if it is how do we do it!

Thanks for the reply

NAs is TS-451 D2

I see the software defined switch settings. It just describes what to set to do a function rather than why a particular setting or not. Or why software defines and not advanced etc

Also just looking at software defined.. I only have 2 ports so as one is active already I can only make a virtual switch out of port 2 but I want both ports to be in the switch..

you need to mark both adapters in that mode..then it can act as a switch

Maybe I'm being dense.. but you can't do that because the adapter isn't available and if you make it available you will lose connectivity to the box to do the setting up as you are connecting thru that adapter?

Or am i confused?

it will be losing connectivity beriefly but then it should act as a software switch (in addtion to access via that port)

try it out ..or invest 6 bucks into a switch

when you setup the virtual switch if you have 2 ports the one you are already using to connect can't be added to the switch because it's greyed out. So I can't see how you can ever get all ports to be in the virtual switch whilst managing the NAS thru the GUI.

We could have a switch but I specifically don't want that as I'm having many of these setups and I need the least cabling and parts for the end users.
