Re: First time I rebooted my PC my shared folder disapeared.
Point taken. Does that mean every time I shut the NAS down the shared folder will dissipate?
I marked this thread be be joined back with the other. Not sure what this means? Am I supposed to continue here or go back to my original thread and post there?

shuting the nas down should do no such thing ..but killing the power might damage your volume/file system and dismount all your shares (NAS units dont like power cuts)
a mod will join both threads to one..as it is still very much the same topic

Re: First time I rebooted my PC my shared folder disapeared.
Before I shut down the NAS, I looked up the proper way to do it. It recommended I hold the power button for one and a half seconds to initialize a shut down. It took nearly four to five minutes before the lights went out. It said for an instant shutdown to hold the button in for four seconds. I don't remember what the one short touch does but it didn't recommend that so I didn't do that.
What should I have done?
My file transfer had ceased and several attempts were not helping so I thought a reboot was in order. So I rebooted both the PC and the NAS. It looks like I need to develop better practices.
I'm shopping now for a UPS.

Just go to the web interface and issue a shutdown that way....the safest..or (even better) never shut it down..a NAS is meant to run 24/7
Any issue displayed on the web gui? (volume issues?)

Not sure what the web gui is. (I know gui is graphic user interface) I've rebooted the PC several times and no warnings. The NAS shared folder did stay on my file explorer for a bit but now it is no longer listed on my file explorer.

I'm not seeing any issues other than my shared drive is missing from my file explorer. Where should I look or what can I try?
The files I transferred are on my NAS observed via file station but it appears to be missing some of the folders that I did transfer.

Please direct me to whatever you want to see. The shared drive was Drive Q:NAS
I've tried to MAP the drive again and it fails.

Re: File Managment and Structure, Intro
my 4th 14TB Drive has arrived but I don't want to convolute the issue at hand by installing it now.
The three installed now are Ironwolf by Seagate 14TB but the new one is a WD Red Pro 14TB will that make a difference?
I will not prematurely try.

Can't find the system settings folder and QULOG (if that's what we want???) isn't running.
