setup the TS453D with 4 disks and am almost done copying my data over from backup. File Station is pretty handy with that, as opposed to what i used to use on my old NAS .... total time to migrate about 8TB from a USB device is coming in at about 26 hours which isn't too bad.

out of curiosity, would i be able to insert an ext4 formatted disk with data on it - into a bay, and be able to copy files to/from it faster than USB ? may not be possible if the NAS has to initialize the disk first.

one other thing i noticed was File Integrity Check (it's available to me in the copy prompt in File Station). it says that it works only for external devices that are also QNAP brand, but my external drive is not a QNAP expansion unit. wondering if the feature still works during the copy process with my 3rd party enclosure, because I was able to select it.

cache will not improve your VM usage .. use the SSD as dedicated volume for VM's if you want

haven't looked into that but am sure there are some recycling centers or places that offer $ for SLA batteries.

recently pulled one from my generator because it wouldn't hold a charge. i typically put all dead batteries in a basket/bin or box, and when the box fills up i go find a place that recycles them.

thinking of my kids here, what's already in the landfills to date, and what could be in the landfills in their future.

this is part of the reason i didn't get these kinds of things. i'm not sure where i can environmentally safely dispose of them. i also have a backlog of old hdds that i did not throw away for the same reason :( lelz....

same. i just store them away and worry about that later (find a proper e recycling place). i'm not not just simply dumping them and polluting, i have too big of a conscience to do that :D
