Painfully slow TVS-872XT

Post by premmahtani »

Hi Guys,
I have a QNAP TVS-872XT with 8x8TB with Seagate enterprise drives in RAID 6 and no SSD's.
I'm getting very poor and erratic transfer speeds over the 10GB ethernet and Thunderbolt 3.
Not sure where to start troubleshooting this as I'm a complete newbie.
The reason I bought this baby was for video editing.
Please help!

What does the rest (or connected bits) of your infrastructure look like? Start with the basics. Hardware, drivers, test between other systems, etc
QNAP TS-563-16G 5x10TB Seagate Ironwolf HDD Raid-5 NIC: 2x1GB 1x10GbE
QNAP TS-231P-US 2x18TB Seagate Exos HDD Raid-1

so it's an imac pro attached directly to the NAS drive via a thunderbolt 3 cable.

Thunderbolt has been reported to be terribly broken, so how is the 10GbE connected ?

you have a 10G Ethernet port on your iMac Pro.
Ethernet port 1 of the TVS-872XT is the 10G port.
Assign the QNAP Ethernet port 1 to be a static IP of 192.168.2.3. Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
make your Mac ethenret port 192.168.2.11, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Click Apply
plug in a Cat 6 cable between the two
on the Mac
GO> Connect To server> smb://192.168.2.3> Connect
the QNAP is now mounted.
Test your speeds. Is it better now ?
And don't ask why you can't use the thunderbolt cable.
