Bug installing new QNAP

Post by SquishyZa »

Steps to reproduce:

1. New QNAP TS653D
2. Go to Smart Installation using Web UI
3. Upgrade firmware to QTS 5.0.1.2145
4. When creating a user create a user named "admin"
5. Click Next

Actual behavior:
1. The Next button is grayed out and it stays that way until you restart the Web UI

Expected behavior:
1. Show an error that the admin user is reserved and can't be used and allow the entry of an alternate username

The error for the reserved username is shown when you try it on the console, but no error is shown in the Web UI and no indication of the process being stuck/broken. I was considering returning the QNAP until I figured out that the admin username is special/reserved.

No bug ..a feature

Admin is always created but disabled.

To use it choose any other username and enable admin afterwards via user GUI

If you feel it is a bug (or want to enter an enhancement request), then you need to contact QNAP support. This is a user forum.

But, as pointed out, this sounds like normal proper behaviour, not a bug as the "admin" account is one of a number of special accounts.

The issue is not that admin is reserved/disabled, it is how the UI behaves when you are dumb/uninformed enough to try and create a user named admin in the web UI. Regarding contacting support, this is as much effort as I am willing to go to for this issue.
