SSD Profiling: No Disks Available

Post by slyraskal »

Hello, I'm setting up a new QNAP TVS-672XT, running QTS 5.0.1.2194. I have installed the latest version of the SSD Profiling Tool app (1.0.1962).

In this NAS I have installed two 1TB Western Digital NVMe drives, model number WDS100T3XHC. Both drives are listed as "Free" when viewed in Control Panel -> Storage and Snapshots -> Disks/VJBOD

Note: It's worth mentioning that the drives I have installed are not listed in QNAPs compatibility list; however, their counterpart drives that don't have a heatsink are listed as compatible. I don't understand why a heatsink would make the drives I have incompatible. The counterpart drive that doesn't come with a heatsink is model number WDS100T3X0C. The drive I am running has a firmware version of 102000WD which is the same firmware version that is listed for the non-heatsink model that is listed as compatible.

When I run the SSD Profiling Tool to determine the optimal over-provisioning value for my M.2 drives, the app doesn't list either of the M.2 drives as available and I'm unable to select them to run a test. Why is this?

Any input would be most appreciated as I couldn't find anything regarding this issue in the various support articles and videos about the application.

SSD profiling can only be rung against disks that have not been initialized. It appears as though your have already been initialized.

That said, the SSD profiling tool is not necessary if you know how to manage your SSD volume use. As long as you never (rarely) exceed 60% of the capacity of the drives, there will always be enough unused cells for the SSD controller wear leveling algorithm to do its stuff.
