QNAP HS-210 - Cannot complete setup

Post by SneakBS »

Hi all,

I have recently inherited an old HS-210 that I am trying to setup. I have managed to get the Web UI working (I get the option to select the firmware and continue), however, when I load the firmware the LED on the NAS pulses green and the web page shows "Initialize Hard Drive & Upload Firmware". This never changes and if I reload the page (after leaving it overnight) I am prompted to select the firmware again.

I can SSH into the NAS but am not entirely sure what I am doing. I have tried to manually load the firmware (https://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Manually_Updating_Firmware) but via a USB but am having various issues with this as I am not an expert in the CLI.

Can anyone recommend any steps for installing firmware via a USB or anything else I can try to get this NAS working.. I do not need to retain anything from the NAS it just needs to be a fresh start.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

take the disks out
format them externally (so nothing is left on them)
boot the NAS with disks (setup should start)
continue from here

I've tried this with 2 different disks, I get the same error each time. Is there any benefit to deleting the partitions on the disks completely?

I've just tried without any partitions on the hard drive and each time I load the Web UI it downloads quick.cgi

The Quick.cgi issue is fixed and the firmware appears to be installing onto the disk with no parition... Fingers crossed! Thank you for your help I will keep an eye on it.

It is working thank you for your advice. Looks like trying to setup on a drive which already has a partition on (even if its empty) is a no-no. doh!

As said, clear the drives before the install

The solution (as shown by QNAP Techi) is switch to a new “Incognito” window, it’s a Google issue, not QNAP!
