TS-251 keeps resetting and rebooting

Post by dh140770 »

Hi all

Hopefully I can get some help here. I have a qnap TS-251.

Over the last 3 days it has been resetting and rebooting at random intervals. By resetting I mean back to factory state and the admin password back to the default.

It's been fine since purchase for about 8 months and now has started doing this.

I have a lot of data on there which seems to be intact when the box is up.

What can I check for to work out the problem?

Were you able to resolve this? I have the same model and it just started doing the same thing last night. Maybe it's a firmware bug.

I logged a ticket with Qnap and they advised that I should rma the unit. I've done so and Amazon are sending me a replacement.
Thanks

Update: replacement unit arrived. Popped the old drives in the new unit and reconfigured the new unit to the old settings, shares etc. it's been up for 3 days now with no problems.

You probably did the right thing. This however does not change the reality that we couldn't have helped anyway. Please review article: When you're asking a question, please include the following prior to posting questions going forward.

if your NAS is not rebooting randomly (but reproducible on setup) and is not running the old firmware that OP had (from 2015), please open a new thread and stop necroposting to old ones

Include in that new thread

- firmware version
- disk models used (and if they are used or new)
