I ran setup on my new TS451+ with three new WD60EFRX drives. There was no option to create a storage pool.
It currently shows a static single volume raid 5 with no storage pool.
Would it be better to have a storage pool?
I plan to add a fourth drive to the raid volume in the future.
I haven’t started copying data to the volume so now is the best time to make changes or start over.
This is my first four bay NAS and my first attempt at setting up raid 5.

Re: New TS451+ setup – storage pool?
I am in the same situation, I followed the initial setup with a RAID5 configuration and 4 HD's totaling 6.5TB and I show one volume with only 2.7TB and no pool storage. Let me know if you find out how to expand the volume or how to get the rest of my storage back.

Re: New TS451+ setup – storage pool?
If you created a single static volume, the only way to create a storage pool is to wipe the box and start over. Backup any critical data you have and then do a re-initialize on the box.
Storage Pool / Thick volumes, have to be done at the time of RAID creation.
