I received a brand new TS-251+ yesterday and promply initialised it (NB: I'm a QNAP newbie )
Somehow I've ended up with 2 valid passwords for 1 account = my personal account. One password I chose, the other is a 5 digit number and I have no idea where it came from, or how it is possible to have 2 valid passwords.
Not happy with this situation from a security perspective, and "change password" assumes there is only one password, but both definitely wokr at Login. Bit weird
Any suggestions appreciated
TIA
How/why did I get 2 passwords for 1 account?

Re: How/why did I get 2 passwords for 1 account?
Some more information please!
Is 2FA enabled?
Is myqnapcloud enabled? If new to QNAP, read the threads about ransomware (in users corner) and do not use myqnapcloud!
An account needs usually only one password, this is alphanumeric. Never seen any 5 digit pw when installing a NAS.
Regards

sure .. I haven't enabled 2 factor authentication nor cloud anything yet, AFAIK. I assume myqnapcloud is disabled by default?
I might take this up with QNAP support ... in parallel. Still open to suggestions

How or when was this mysterious 5 digit code presented to you if you were not asked to create it?ChrisJ7903 wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 4:19 pm One password I chose, the other is a 5 digit number and I have no idea where it came from, or how it is possible to have 2 valid passwords.

Re: How/why did I get 2 passwords for 1 account?
I use LastPass password manager to generate complex passwords and autofills them during logins. These are never just 5 chars long, so when I saw just 5 dots in the password box during autofill, I got curious, using the "eye" symbol to reveal the 5 digit password. It was somewaht disconcerting login was allowed using the 5 digit password. Although now it no longer works. I guess it' could be a s/w bug in the password manager... concerning either way !
