Hello!
Thank you in advance for your help. I am relatively a nube at this level of a NAS. I currently have a 24TB WD EX4100 that runs my Plex. I needed more space and a more powerful NAS to run my immense 4K and 1080 library through Plex...so I went big.
I purchased 8 WD RED Pro 16TB HDDs.
I have also purchased 2 WD RED Pro 2TB SSDs.
And here is where my questions come into play...for the set up.
I am only using this NAS for Plex, nothing else...
Setting up with QuTS
I am going to set up my 8 16TB HDDs in RAID 5. (I will have a secondary backup of all files onto my old WD EX4100 NAS - so no RAID 6 needed)
- When I set up Storage and Snapshots
-- I want to place all 8 - WD 16TB HDDs in a storage pool
-- I want to place the 2 - WD 2TB SSDs in a storage pool
---- Should I assign the 8 - WD 16TB HDDs as the system pool or assign that to 2 - WD 2TB SSDs?
----- What are the pro/con of having HDDs/SSDs pool be a system pool?
----- For my system pool, do I need overprovisioning? (Would Thick or Thin make more sense?)
I am watching videos on NASCompares to learn about this technology and options....but I just can't deterimine what would be best for use only with PLEX. I am trying to maximize usable space and performance.
Any thoughts, recommendations, and suggestions would be appreciated!

The forum search is always a good starting point ..

- default RAM is fine
- get two NVME for the system Pool (Plex install or Container/VM image goes here) || no need for overprovisioning
- Place all spinning disks in a RAIDz1 or RAIDz2 for the video files || no need for overprovisioning
- return the SATA SSD's (unless you want to set them up as extra pool)
