Re: [HOW-TO] Install Optware/OpenSSH as default SSHd Server
Thanks, I figure it out.
Something was wrong with my client keys, that was the problem, i redid them and now Im logging in .
Although I had to set Strict mode to no, in sshd_config and enable Root login, RSA and pubkey auth.
I also replaced Qnapware with Entware-NG, working fine now.
Thanks again for your effort and for Entware

Re: [HOW-TO] Install Optware/OpenSSH as default SSHd Server
Hi, I am a baby beginner with a new TS 453 pro and I have installed qnapware. However, I am unable to start openssh. Following, the instructions in the first message I am able to login to ssh using another port. Then I am able to install openssh using
#opkg install openssh-server
But then am I supposed to do opt/sbin/sshd 2>/dev/null. If I do it and try to login using ssh from another terminal, it states connection refused on port 22. I also tried Apps/opt/sbin/sshd 2>/dev/null, and the same result. Please help.

I was thinking about doing the same. Did you have any problems replacing Qnapware ?ilivlad wrote:Thanks, I figure it out.

Use Entware-ng - anything esle is no longer maintained. Avoid _replacing_ the QNAP sshd (as per the subject) - run it on a dedicated port.
Why do you need another sshd then?ts-269pro wrote:A short question from a QNAP and Linux newbie.

With QTS 4.2.1 it seems to be possible to add users (not groups, tough) to the QNAP default sshd configuration FWIW.

Re: [HOW-TO] Install Optware/OpenSSH as default SSHd Server
I'm having an issue when logging in.
I went through the entire process, started sshd via /opt/sbin, but when I try to log in with a password, I just get permission denied errors until it kicks me out after the 3rd try. Is there any setting I'm supposed to change? No one else seems to be having this issue.
Thanks.

@pwilson: FYI: I follwed the guideline and pathed the script as described on http://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Install_Optwa ... on_startup
It works perfectly.
Thanks a lot.

@all:
pwilson does RIP ...
Optware is obsolete and it was replaced by Entware-NG, see the related subforum.

Re: [HOW-TO] Install Optware/OpenSSH as default SSHd Server
I'm trying to get OpenSSH to work on TS453 Pro, firmware 4.2 (4 disks). My goal is to be able to SFTP into the machine when I'm away from home. Any system access will be done at home through the local network (GUI or command line). I'd like to have a couple of users be able to SFTP in. Ideally I'd want to lock Admin out from non-local SFTP (it seems more secure this way?). I also like Patrick's approach of keeping the original daemon and 'adding to it'.
There is the aspiration...
I've started with Patrick's guide (thanks). While I seemed to get a successful install (following the wiki-how with a manual install) on Optware I could not then run the ipkg command. First, question - should I uninstall this - does it matter to leave it?
Given the suggestions to Qnapware as support for opkg I then followed:
https://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Replace_ssh_ ... re_OpenSSH
I get a number of errors when I start the .sh file (the service?):
First, the opensshd folder is not found
Second, the sshd.config file is not found either
Third, when I test a connection (SSH using Putty) I get 'connection refused'.
Using opkg I installed the openssh-server to root (it seems to be installed since an attempt to update it tells me I've got the most recent version). Is part of my problem that I'm installed at root? (since the .sh points toward the Aps directory)
In the 'recipe' from wiki there is not configuration of the sshd.config - I'm wondering if I'm missing something here, too.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! (apologies for not being more technical)

Re: [HOW-TO] Install Optware/OpenSSH as default SSHd Server
The commands are not added to the path dynamically, you might have to re-login.jamestn wrote: While I seemed to get a successful install (following the wiki-how with a manual install) on Optware I could not then run the ipkg command.
The QNAPedia entry is obsolete, and is not applicable to the Entware-NG environment, which has it's own start-up init.d environment, it's own etc folder.jamestn wrote:Given the suggestions to Qnapware as support for opkg I then followed: ...

Re: [HOW-TO] Install Optware/OpenSSH as default SSHd Server
The QNAPedia entry reports a test on a TS453 pro running the 4.2.0 version of the firmware so I'm struggling to see it as obsolete. All the reading I've done so far shows optware and entware as obsolete (and unsupported).
I am trying to work out why I get the connection refused. Also why I'm getting errors on starting the .sh file.

Re: [HOW-TO] Install Optware/OpenSSH as default SSHd Server
It's 100% based on obsolete IPKG Optware.jamestn wrote:The QNAPedia entry reports a test on a TS453 pro running the 4.2.0 version of the firmware so I'm struggling to see it as obsolete. All the reading I've done so far shows optware and entware as obsolete (and unsupported).
Entware-NG is current, community supplied, and not supported by QNAP of course.jamestn wrote:All the reading I've done so far shows optware and entware as obsolete (and unsupported).
"the .sh" has no relevance to the Entware-NG environment.jamestn wrote:I am trying to work out why I get the connection refused. Also why I'm getting errors on starting the .sh file.

Is there an updated tutorial for how to do this with Entware-ng and OpenSSH-server?
