Middle power nas

Post by yttrium6 »

Sometimes maybe qnap sees these forums. I've been saving but all the nice nas out of my range. Others way too underpowered. Need 8 bay with updated version of 873 type chip. Is something like that coming out? I'll have to wait. I wanted ryzen but just too much for me. 873 too old now, I already have end of life unit. Can't pay 1200 usd for older model...which is closer to retirement

Maybe models with separate versions with updated chips? Such as a hardware rev. 2, with next gen chip of the same class?

So why would you not think of the TS-873 as at least midrange? It has a CPU more than twice as powerful as the one on the TS-453Be. It also has built-in M.2 and 2 PCIe slots to let you add 10GbE and NVMe. If that is not good enough to be mid-range, then what would it take to be mid-range.

here is a comparison
https://www.span.com/compare/TS-877-160 ... 9550-63162

873 got discontinued for the 873e

yes the 873e is using a AMD R-Series RX-421BD quad-core 2.1 GHz, burst up to 3.4 GHz, but the NAS release date is 02/01/2018

ryzen has more threads being more capable. but if the 873e has sufficient passmark and enough threads, then should be fine for you? in terms of QTS warranty, it should be a latest model so it should have access to much more recent qts available (cept features like QUAI which is native to x77 series, and no quicksync since thats for intel cpus)

*not sure why they said kodi not supported. there is a kodi qpkg available on qnapclub.eu and on fathermande's thread/forum

any examples of your intended usage? that would help :'

if you really need a ryzen, then you'll just have to fork out for the x77 series. otherwise just settle for something that just works at your price point if possible

will the 873 range be updated to a newer amd ryzen cpu achitecture, at existing price point, as newer ryzen cpus start replacing older 1st gens? probably, but when i have no idea :S my guess is 3-5 years from now? so i wouldn't hold my breath.

Exactly that, that's why it's not supported. Don't kid people into thinking it is.

Who's guaranteeing to sort out any problems?

Hmmm great replies, thank you all, I'll look at 873e. I have no need for 877, I use mainly I/o operations, minimal streaming, and its 1080, and over the local network only. I only want to ensure I never buy underpowered again as that is the boat I'm in now. However, we are all limited by budgets after all.
