Is the responsiveness of TS-133 good enough for light user?

Post by exe127 »

Hi, I am new to QNAP and would like to have the new product TS-133 as below:
https://www.qnap.com/en-us/product/ts-1 ... s/hardware

ARM 4-core Cortex-A55 1.8GHz processor
2 GB on board (non-expandable)

I will use it only backup some photos (600GB) and videos. And I know QuMagie is the apps to sync and review the photos in the NAS.
My questions are:
Q1) How's the responsiveness for me to use QuMagie on iphone when I browse the photos outside throught data network? (i.e. 4G LTE/ 5G)
Q2) TS-133 promotes itself with a built-in NPU to boost AI-powered face recognition, but the Qumagie AI Core requires 4GB. Is the feature on TS-133 is just more than a joke?
https://www.qnap.com/en-us/software/qumagie

I am a light user (just backup photos and video) and pretty sure TS-133 fits my requirement. However, if the experience (QuMagie outside) is laggy, will TS-262 is the next better choice?
https://www.qnap.com/en-us/product/ts-262

Thank you all.

No experience with QuMagie and such stuff, but you should consider at least two points:
1. A NAS with a single bay: if the disks fails, your data is gone! So you should think about an external backup, a USB drive is sufficient.
Anyhow I would recommend a 2 bay NAS and configure it as raid1 to improve availability (raid1 is not a backup!!!).
2. Access from outside. The only(!!!) solution here is using VPN! Not a paid VPN service like NordVPN, Cyberghost or others.
The VPN server should run at your router/firewall. If this is not possible do not expose your NAS by port forwardings/myqnapcloud!
See the links in my signature what will be happen if doing so!

Thanks for your reply. The points you mentioned are deeply considered and I believe 1 bay is OK to me.
Hopefully someone may answer to my questions above. Thanks again.

The NPU should help QuMagie perform better.
But with 4GB Recommended for QuMagie, having less than the recommended RAM could potentially have a significant impact on performance. In general, I would recommend having at least the recommended am amount of RAM.

Thanks. Probably I should go for TS-262C

u can also try checking reddit, might be someone posted their own reviews about this model there as well.

good point. i'm only experience with the ts-128 and ts-228 models. i only know if u use many apps then things like arm cpus and low ram is not a good idea. but like u said ts-133 promotes itself with ai recognition which hints at qumagie, so no idea whats up with that. curious if anyone has any experience with that for this model o-O;

if using 1bay u can setup as a single disk. but there is no checksums. even raid5 mdam vs zfs raidz1 have a difference as well. so more consideration. also another reason why i'm not the biggest fan of single drive models either. even the 2 bay models are better because u can least do raid1
