TS-453 Pro replacement to recover data

Post by clavier23 »

Hello,

my Intel-based QNAP TS-453 Pro just died. I had two bays populated with 2 4TB disks as raid1 (thick volumes). The disks were full volume encrypted.
Although I have an around a week old backup of the data, I want to recover the last couple of days worth of data. I've leaned due to special QNAP LVM customizations it isn't possible to mount it with a Linux machine to recover the data.

Is it possible to buy an entry line 1bay (or if it has to be a 2bay) NAS e.g. one of the QNAP TS-133 or TS-233 devices, and put just one of the disks in there to be able to access the data?
Or would the disk be overwritten on first boot up?
Does it make a difference if the new NAS has a ARM-based CPU but the volumes were created on an Intel based one?

Thanks for your reply!

For system migration, you need an x86 CPU NAS.
https://www.qnap.com/en-us/nas-migratio ... ion=ts-264
That shows what NAS you can migrate to.

You also need the password for your encrypted volume or the key file for your encrypted volume.
TS-264 is a great unit.
TS-262 is cheaper and can also work.
