As you prefer, the trailer i play is this one:
http://demo-uhd3d.com/fiche.php?cat=uhd&id=6

I desume the bottleneck was on the CPU just because during the playback the graph of the cpu usage was climbing from 90% to 98% usage.
If you already have KODI workin on HDStation and you don't have problems playing that movie i'll be glad if you can perform that test for me. If you tell me that you don't have any stuttering issue i'll buy immediately the CPU from amazon :)

PS: if i play the same movie via KODI on my desktop (i7 @4500mhz 12 cores) the movie is very smooth....

ok, I've played the file and can tell one thing for sure - CPU usage barely exceeds 1-2% during playback; there seemed to be no lags or stuttering during playback and I tried in both 4K@24Hz (native for this file) on 4K tv, and 1080P@60Hz (downscaling) modes. Strangely, when I tried a 1080P movie in a 4K mode (upscaling) I observed some occasional "catch ups"/fast-forwards, but no change in CPU - this is not an issue to me as I don't see why would one want to upscale a 1080p movie on a host, so at the end I left the system in 1080p@60hz mode. I had some trouble setting up audio passthrough on HDMI to allow DTS-HD, but it worked after system restart, and now seem all fine.. will keep on testing.

Interesting, thanks for the test. Do you have a REAL 4k display or are you simply streaming 4k content to a FullHD monitor?

I was told by nas headquarters that you cannot upgrade the CPU in the x82. Can anybody confirm if you can or cannot upgrade. Would really like to purchase the x82 but if I cannot upgrade the CPU the x71 is more tempting

There is another thread on this forum all about the x82 - people have already upgraded, it's not a problem, probably easier than the tvs-x71

Thanks for all the information.

I have upgraded my 1 week old TVS-671 from 4G RAM to 16G with KVR16S11K2/16. Works like a charm.

Will the 4790S, 4790K, 4790T, 4785T, 4770T CPU going down in price over time ?

What causes the occasional price drop ?

I am weighting between the price and the warranty of the Qnap.

the price does not usually drop.
It drops a bit and then stays stable, eventually when stocks become very limited, the price may climb again.

rwaves wrote:I finally tried the Upgrade of my TVS-471. I took me quite some time to get the mainboard out of the case. The assembly was fortunately quicker thanks to the paper screw overview.
It runs now with an i7-4790T and 16 GB RAM (from A-Data).
Everything seems to run as expected. I was a little bit worried when the device powered itself off at the first boot. But then it automatically booted again and was operational.

I have read that the TVS-471 uses a 12 cm cooling fan. I have looked at noctua and they offer different models with different rpm and noise values. Does anyone know which one should be suited for the TVS-471?

They offer:

NF-F12 PWM - 1500 rpm - 22,4 db/A - 93,4 m3/h
NF-P12 PWM - 1300 rpm - 19,8 db/A - 92,3 m3/h
NF-S12A PWM - 1200 rpm - 17,8 db/A - 107,5 m3/h

It seems to me that the last one is the most effective and quiet one. Are there other things or requirement to consider for the QNAP?
Hello i am new to this forum and i am also intrested wich fan would be best for THE qnap tvs-471

Since the QNAP TVS-1271U-RP-i7-32G supports 32Gb RAM, does other x71 supports 32GB RAM ?
