Hi. This is what i'm interested in:
1. Cheap NAS for home entertainment use. Mainly for streaming HD video throughout home. So what I primarily need is the ability to handle HD video (BDrip) file streaming without hiccups. Min 8TB total storage support. Wouldn't want to spend more than $300 on this.
2. Some good Surveillance solution. Need an ability to monitor several cameras from PCs and TVs around the house as well as continuous recording.
If both of these can be integrated into a single unit then it's a plus.
Thank you.
Please suggest: home entertainment NAS and Surveillance

Hi Kuat,
Both of those functions can likely be integrated into a single unit, but not necessarily in the price point you are looking for. $300 for a NAS w/8TB is impossible. An 8TB NAS rated drive is $300/drive alone.
1) Define what your playback devices are going to be for your streaming? Streaming = sending data blocks to your playback device that will handle all the work. If you playback device can't handle the audio/video format of the BDrip, then the NAS has to do transcoding which is a much heavier load on the NAS. How many simultaneous streams are you looking at?
2) Just because a TV/PC has a camera in it, doesn't mean that you can necessarily access it via QNAP's surveillance software. Check the compatibility list here: https://www.qnap.com/en-us/compatibility/

if you use media players, they will only stream the file. no need for trascoding. they give you the most flexibility as to video/audio formats supported.
