Firmware? Disk configuration?
Use the forum search feature before posting.

Use RAID and external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced, and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.

how many hdds are you using atm?

if your doing raid5, you can remove 1 hdd hot (while system still running). The NAS will then go into degraded mode.
Then next step enter hdd into a different bay, to rebuild your raid using the new hdd location. When raid is rebuilt, only then insert the ssd into that now vacant slot.
Roughly this part you do something like that. I'm looking for specifics on forum for you, what to do in QTS storage manager exactly... but the process ought to be something like that afaik.

Raid5 is safe to remove 1 drive. you try remove more you lose your raid and all your data. Always have backups just in case....

*okay think i found it. Go to my FAQ link in signature. Look at the video for "How to Upgrade Your Drives on your QNAP NAS". Their example is a 2bay unit but i believe it ought to work for 4, 6, 8 bay etc as well. Your basically telling qts your changing hard drive, before you remove it, then re-enter to the new slot to rebuild raid. Wait for that to complete first before restarting QNAP etc. Rebuilding raid is a sensitive time you don't want that process disrupted mid way

Also go FAQ link for creating support ticket to helpdesk :) just in case.
