Re: QM2-2S10G1T
I just tried a similar combo with a qm2-2s10g1t card in an i3 tvs-871 with 16GB ram and I could only get the system to start up with it in the lower slot. In the top one it hung at booting the kernel. The drives had been used in a couple of esxi servers as boot drives for a few months so could be that but when I moved it to the lower slot, it then had some post output from the card when starting up so don't think it was that.
Thanks.
Ian.

Re: QM2-2S10G1T
As an update, it seems to be working fine with one major exception. It will not connect at 10G. I have swapped the cables between my iMac and the 871 and the mac still connects at 10G so its not the swtichport or cable. I have opened a ticket with QNAP but will not hold my breath waiting for a reply.

Re: QM2-2S10G1T
A further update, I connected the QM2 direct to my iMac's 10G card via a new cat6A cable and it auto-negotiates to 10G so there is something wrong with the comms between the QM2 and my switch (Netgear M5300 no not a cheap one). I have updated QNAP support to this but they are still trying to figure out why it wouldn't start up with the card in the top (x4) slot and haven't even got to the 10G issue yet.
A ts-1635 connected to the same switch (just to the sfp+ port) without issue.

Re: QM2-2S10G1T
As an update on performance, it's very good. Via the 10g interface, I can write yo the m.2 ssd's at about 500MB/s and reads at 1GB/s (line speed I guess with overhead). The internal reds (which I am slowly swapping out for hgst disks) write at about 250MB/s and also read at 1GB/s.
All in all, impressive performance, shame about the interface and negotiation issues I am having.

Re: QM2-2S10G1T
Would you be willing to provide some additional information and run two tests to see how fast the NAS is able to access your M.2 drives through the QM2 card internally?
What model and capacity are your M.2 drives?
Do you have them in an array? If so RAID 0 or RAID 1?
Test 1:
qcli_storage -T
Test 2:
qcli_storage -t
Thanks!

I am currently replacing the last drive so its rebuilding so will wait until its finished before running those.
The m.2 drives are samsung evo 850's 500GB each set up as raid 1 (system drive as I added the card before any spinners).

Re: QM2-2S10G1T
I have just tested the 871 with the QM2-S10G1T and a LAN10G2T-D card too and have found the following:
top 4x slot: QM2-S10G1T, bottom 8x slot: LAN10G2T-D, system will not boot. No post output from QM2 card.
top 4x slot: EMPTY, bottom 8x slot: LAN10G2T-D, system boots fine (albeit with pool1 missing). 10G connectivity to Netgear 5300 Switch.
top 4x slot: EMPTY, bottom 8x slot: QM2-S10G1T, system Boot fine. POST output from QM2 card. All works as expected with the exception that the QM2 WILL NOT connect at 10G to the 5300 Switch. Only connects at 1G.
Clearly there is an issue with the QM2 card in the 871 on 2 fronts here.
1) it will not work in the top x4 slot at all (despite being a x4 card)
2) It will not connect to the same switch that the LAN10G2T-D connects fine to at 10G. I also do not get the option for network speed for the 10G interface with the QM2-S10G1T card in so can not force it to 10G although when I do that on the switch side, it no longer sees a link on that port.
I did wonder if the BIOS needed an update as its dated 2014 still and maybe this card uses features not in the older bios but I am unable to find a BIOS update for this board. One does not seem to be listed on the QNAP site.
I have fed this into the blackhole that is QNAP support too but will not hold my breath there.
Ian.

Re: QM2-2S10G1T
Further update, QNAP support have just done a BIOS upgrade on the 871 and now it can see the QM2 in the top slot too which allows me to use a LAN10G2T-D in the bottom slot and run at 10G. I provided some more info for them on the QM2 not connecting at 1G and then changing the cable to the LAN10G2T-D card, it does connect at 10G fine. They are still looking at it and hopefully will sort it soon.

Thanks Ian for keeping us posted as you work through the issues with QNAP. It is nice to see individuals willing to spend the time and effort to be part of the solution.

Re: QM2-2S10G1T
It also looks like on some Qnap regional sites that they mention you need QTS 4.3.4 firmware for this card to work correctly, so maybe some other fixes have been added to the newer firmware.
