TS-453B - PCIe M.2 & RAM

Post by AndreAga »

Hi all,
I have a TS-453B and I have two questions:

1) I want buy the PCIe QNAP QM2-2P to install two M.2 SSD, but is it possibile to configure these M.2 SSDs in RAID0/RAID1 as System Storage and leave the others (4) as Data Storage? I found some information about SSD cache and Qtier, but no one about this kind of configuration.
2) Is it also possibile to install 16GB of RAM?

Thanks.

There is no "system storage" per se on QTS - not sure what you want to achieve exactly.

QNAP and Intel as the SoC maker does not support more than 8 GB. Some users might have had success, some failed.

Hi, thanks for the info.

With "system storage" I mean install all the applications on M.2 e leave the 4 bays for only "multimedia" or virtual images and so on. So, I want to use M.2 as a normal storage. Is this possible?

About the RAM, I want to buy 2x8GB Kingston HyperX DDR3L 1600 1.35v CL9 SODIMM and try with them. But, in case of failure, does the system support 1x8GB or it requires 2x4GB?

Thank you.

I've done something like this in my TVS-1282
Your QNAP will put all the system files and apps on the first storage array & volume you setup. (Some apps allow you to select where they get installed so you could override that intentionally)
I decided to configure my internal M.2 drives in RAID 1 first so that everything QTS needs gets installed and run from there. My hope was to allow the spinning disks to be able to spin down into sleep/power saving mode without being woken up every few minutes when QTS needs to access something.

You can confirm this by clicking on Storage Manager > Storage Space > twirl down the arrow next to Storage Pool 1 and the first volume you created should show "(System)" at the end.

Good luck!

Thanks for all info.

About question 1: In the end, I decided to buy Crucial 2x8GB DDR3L (CT102464BF160B) and I can confirm that are recognized:
- Total Memory: 16GB
- Memory Slots: 2 (8GB, 8GB)
