Which one between TVS-682 TS-677 TS-453BT3

Post by Leosirth »

Hi All,

I would like to buy a new NAS which I'll mainly use for backup / IoT and Virtualization.

Which one would you suggest?
I know that the new TS-x77 series is mainly focused on Virtualization since Ryzen has more cores than TVS-x82 intel CPUs but what are your opinions on that?

Honestly I'm not a big fan of AMD, but I'm open to others point of view.

for virtualization, I would say the x77 are a big contender, but I would wait till we have a market pricing.. hard to compare without it

Start with maybe elaborating what and how many VM's you want to run

I too think the x77.
If I look at the passmark and compare the i7-6700 in the 1282 with the 776 and its Ryzen 1500X then it is a win for the AMD. 10014 vs 10483
And the 1600X and 1700X even go beyond that. Resp. 12510 and 14666.
The 453B is no match for these. Passmark of 2153.
But I guess that the price will be much higher on the x77. I am not sure if it will be higher then the x82.

Edited:
My reaction on that you do not give much for the AMD. Why is that?
Because they did not make a top CPU the latest years?
That they did not make a top-fast CPU does not mean they where bad. They where middle class.
But with the Ryzens they touch the top, single core speed, and go over it, or are equal to the top intels, if you take all cores in to consideration.
Friendly Greetings,

RobB

Hi aarbee,

indeed because I see AMD as a middle class CPU producer. Maybe they made a big jump with the Ryzen, this is why I'm asking for others opinion.

TS-677 has a MSRP price of $1649
while a TVS-682 can be found at $1200 and with maybe $250 can be upgraded to i7

so with a similar price there is an i7-6700 vs Ryzen 5 1400
Both with 4 cores and 8 threads and Ryzen 5 1400 have a passmark of 8444

What do you think about this?

PS
I'm from EU, I tried to match the price on dollars since the MSRP of the TS-x77 are on dollars. Please correct me if some price are wrong.

As far as I can see it, does the 677 have an 1600 on board.
https://www.qnap.com/nl-nl/product/cont ... t_overview
Perhaps you have a different reference?
Yet the 682 has an i3-6100 onboard, which can be exchanged for the 6700, if I am correct.
And that i3 has a passmark of around 5508.
I had bought a x73 because I considered the x82 a bit to expensive. But I regret that now, as there is no GPU passthrough on the x73. I thought I did not need it, back then.

And yes Europe is more expensive.

One addition... More speed also means more electricity.
Friendly Greetings,

RobB

The TS-x77 family (depending on model/config) will have either the Ryzen 1600 (12351 passmark) or 1700 (13778 Passmark) (both non-X models).

You are correct. The CPU's in the x77 are without the X.
The X is just a tiny bit faster.

Does anyone have an idea when the TS-x77 models will become available? The announcement at Computex (and other fairs) was back in may, with ordering availability for Q3 ...
I wanted to await some real comparisons before deciding between TVS-682 and TS-677, but this is taking looong now.

Span.com shows new model listings for the x77 family with a 30day ETA. So before Christmas it looks like.

intel has thunderbolt. but unless you need tb or your going for a tb model, it's a moot point.

I feel the x77 series is the better deal becauze the ryzen 1600 and 1700 has more cores better for vm.

i don't buy due to fandom. amd has made a good comeback with ryzen, just check the reviews, it's quite competitive vs intel now.

intel tried to fight back with coffeelake but ryzen has already made it's mark as a good cpu with many threads at competitive pricing :)
