Thank you very much @bokr71 8)

This really helps a lot !
I have an rendez-vous with Taiwan Tech, in 2 days, viaTeamViewer...

Indeed, I did the test with a Raid1 NVMe (EVO 970 1to x 2)
In this particular test : it does a great job if set up like this : Raid 1, static volume, write and read, all In and out.
In real world...When Editing the 4K raw light files with FCPX, it not night and day... but rather the same behavior. :S ..

Would you mind to do a 16Gb test with SSD acceleration OFF please ?

This is what I got with SSD acceleration ON ( Raid 1, static volume, write and read, all In and out )
Minimum (READ) rate = 392 MB/Sec
10gbe nvme ON.png
And with SSD OFF :
Minimum rate = 76 MB/Sec (!!!)
READ curve is crazy !
10gbe nvme OFF.png

thanks very much all

have a nice day !

My tests were with disk acceleration turned of in AJA. Turning it off in the NAS is a bit of a bigger change, but perhaps I'll have time for that tomorrow...

8) Hi !
Thank you very much, I was indeed talking about switching Off the "Cache Acceleration " Button in the QNAP settings page ( it is very quick )

Have a nice day

Hi,

Just to let you know. I had a TeamViewer session with a technicien from Taiwan 2 days ago.
The technician did 1 hour of testing and did not find any solution to improve the performance on my Tvs-872xt playing 16Gb file in AJA.
He told me this issue was already known ( 4gb vs 16 gb speed pattern )
R and D is going to have the report of those tests. I hope they will pay attention to this issue.

In the mean time, I de-activate the "pop up" error message in case of drop frame in Final Cut Pro X and I can edit quite well.
On a rare occasion, I have to replay because some words is lost ( audio mute when frame are dropped )

I hope QNAP will improve the way the system caches the very large files ( like 16 Gb and over )
Otherwise I don't see the point, for editing only, mono user, to get such a monster of a NAS ( I5 and 16 gb of RAM ) :(
When editing I use barely 5% of the Proc and 15% of RAM.

I m still looking forward AJA test comparing 4gb VS 16 gb ( with QNAP SSD cache acceleration OFF )

cheers

Good to know they have acknowledged the issue. I too am seeing this, but only when testing using AJA, as I do not work with large files like that. As a photographer my files are significantly smaller... my final file may end up several gigabytes big, but getting there is work with files in the range of 100-150mb.

And good to see that you too have realised that one thing is what testing tells you, another is what you are actually seeing when using the system.

Hi -
there are SO MANY VARIABLES, it's hard to tell what causes what.
I installed a TVS-872XT today with multiple Mac's - some iMac Pro's, some with thunderbolt to 10G adaptors. You would like the performance to be identical on all Mac's, but they are not -
on the SAME QNAP with the SAME switch. Why ? I don't know. Some good OS installations, some bad, some older computers, etc. I got better performance from a 2012 Mac Pro with an ATTO NT11 10G card to the QNAP than I did with a new MacBook Pro with a thunderbolt 3 to 10G adaptor, on the SAME QNAP. All that matters is that you can play back your videos without stuttering - not if your
graph looks nice and clean on AJA system test. On one of the new iMac Pro's, I could not even log into the QNAP web GUI - I had to go to another computer to assign it's name and password in the QNAP.
So what do I tell the client - "we have to wipe out your macOS installation, and all software, and redo everything from ground zero". That's never going to happen. If this was the clients only computer - well, I would still be sitting there. All the other computers at least had no trouble connecting to the QNAP QTS web GUI.

I have kind of the same issue.

My read speed is very Good ! I'm connected in thunderbolt to an iMac.
But the write speed is really poor and I can't figure out why.
Do you have any tips or update about this issue ?

Hi Valentin

You have to give us more detail about your whole configuration.

Here is some details you should check ( I you read page 1, you already know... )

- NAS ?
- using 10GBE connection ?
- connected to the QNAP Directly to the 10Gbe port ?
- No switch, nothing else connected ?
- did you disable SMB ?
- connecting via SMB ?
- did you enable Jumbo Frame -> 9000 on both the NAS and the Imac ?
- what kind of volume did you create ?
- The Type of this volume ?
- no SSD ?
- no M2nmve ?

....
