2 QNAP NAS & 1 Smart UPS power managment control
Hi guys
Had TS-412 and going to buy ts-832x as 2nd NAS
Cause Im living in asia, storm&rains - common things. So... power is down ones per month
Question
What is the most effective and cheap way to link one UPS & 2 NAS for make correct shoul down if electric is out.
As I understand for 2 NAS + 1 UPS - we have 2 option
UPS USB port -> master NAS (ts-832x) & SNMP broadcasting for 2nd(slave) NAS (cheapest but technicaly herdest solution)
OR
UPS with SNMP option & organaise power-off system on that base (BUt it's not cheap solution cause that UPS cost more)
Any suggestion?

Re: 2 QNAP NAS & 1 Smart UPS power managment control
I live in Philippines so blackouts happen.
Qnap are terrible at recovering from power failures. Mine take about 2-3 hours to get back up after an unscheduled black out.
I have 2 fairly high end cyberpower ups.
That do the "nice" shutdown when needed.
Yes u can connect 2 nas but i have never trusted it. I have an inverter with 2 car batteries that give me and hour or 2 to manually shut down the nas.
So my suggestion is a ups for each nas set to nicely shut down 5-10 Minutes into your outage. They can be set to come back on when power resumes. My inverter can turn my nas back on but cannot shut them down after a certain time.

I have two nas on one ups

Hi Dolbyman -
can you please explain "network slave". You have a single USB port on your UPS, which goes into QNAP #1, your 419P. There are no more USB ports on your UPS.
How do you slave your 951X USB port to get notified that there is a power outage ?

Re: 2 QNAP NAS & 1 Smart UPS power managment control
the 419+ is the network master (usb connection to ups) and the 951X gets setup as network slave (all setup via ups gui in qts)
so the 951X knows the charge status and remaining runtime of the ups as well
the network master is nut compatible
I have an installation with a 951X and a large dell esxi server
The qnap is network master and the esxi is the slave(nut tool plugin)... works also just fine

Re: 2 QNAP NAS & 1 Smart UPS power managment control
Connect the UPS to one NAS and make that NAS network master and the other one the slave , set them up via external device.
Pretty much self explaining ..also mentioned in the manual

Re: 2 QNAP NAS & 1 Smart UPS power managment control
On the Nas master there is a part that says "allow the following ip's to be notify in the event of power failure"
Do i put the slave ip there or the masters ? The slave is already setup up just the masters part i don't have yet

Re: 2 QNAP NAS & 1 Smart UPS power managment control
Well the slave did not shutdown. looked over the setup seems correct.
I will change where it is plug into the ups that might be the issue it's on the backup side but it's in the one call master control outlet
