Zen 2 cpu most likely. Zen 3 desktop not yet out
Image
We know far less about desktop, however. Beyond the fact we know it'll be revealed in 2020, Zen 3 is largely an enigma wrapped in mystery. It will be based on a refinement of the 7nm process found in Zen 2, but any more specific information is purely in the realm of rumor.

pcie 4 maybe?

If graphics cards don’t need it, what’s the point of PCIExpress 4?
June 12, 2019
PCIe 4 is finally here. AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 3000 generation of CPUs are backwards compatible with most first and second-generation, 300 and 400 series motherboards. But the 500 series, and more specifically the X570 chipset, introduces some exciting features, including support for PCIe 4.0. But considering graphics cards of today don’t even max out PCIE 3.0, and many of AMD’s flagship X470 motherboards from 2018 actually ran PCIE 2.0, is there really much point to the new standard?
More likely and more useful, is that those lanes could be used for a variety of add-in cards. If you want the fastest storage possible, PCIe 4.0 NVME drives are at the forefront and some have already been announced with sustained read/write speeds as high as five GB/s. That’s 10 times the speed of your average SATA III SSD.

While those kinds of speeds aren’t going to deliver much in the way of a reduction in game load times or Windows boot times over today’s fastest PCIE SSDs, or even much beyond SATA SSDs, for those dealing with large amounts of data or regularly performing big file transfers, that massive storage throughput could come in handy.

With less of a reliance on chipset PCIExpress lanes, PCIe 4 enabled home RAID setups of multiple high-speed NVMe drives for even more sustained read/write headroom, are perfectly viable too. Gigabyte even demonstrated this as Computex with four 2TB M.2 SSDs on a single card with maximum read and write speeds in excess of 15GBps.

It needed its own cooling fan and shroud, like a miniature GPU, but what’s another fan when it comes to extreme storage performance?

Faster networking is also a more viable option with PCIe 4.0. 10-gigabit Ethernet could be possible on just one dedicated lane, making it far more accessible for the average person. Additional USB or Thunderbolt 3 ports could also benefit from those free lanes, allowing for more accessories and peripherals.

Those Thunderbolt 3 ports could come in extra handy in the laptop space. With additional bandwidth and dedicated lanes that don’t have to rely on the chipset’s more limited connection to the CPU, we could see external graphics cards compete directly with onboard GPUs for the first time. That would make external enclosures like Razer’s Core X Chroma, a real alternative for laptop owners who want gaming power at home and a more portable, longer battery-life device during their work day.

And with Quts Hero becoming a norm by end of 2020 at least, maybe they will introduce a desktop ryzen model with ecc ram support perhaps? i think this was mentioned before about an ecc model, but perhaps they were referring to their other recent xeon NAS model release that does support ecc ram. So not sure :'

2.5gbe or perhaps 5gbe? or even 10gbe? depending. The x72N series came with 5gbe, and the x53D series came with 2.5gbe So wouldn't make sense if they left a x77 replacement model stuck on 1gbe, when even mid tier offerings are now given 2.5gbe at minimum

The 77XU rackmount is definitely still a current product. Our current 77 series Tower is EOL at least in the USA.

had a discussion about that in the German forum

QNAP should make a distinction between EOS (End of Sale) and EOL (End of Life)

As End of Life units will have limited/no parts and firmware updates, End of Sale should still have parts and certainly firmware updates for a while.

X77 in the list is still fully covered by parts and updates (no end date given)

On this link I can only see the 2 smaller units being EOL. Did not see the 16 and 12 bay ones. I am ready to bet it is triggered by a supply chain problem. Looking at current price and availability of these units, they might as well be EOL anyway since they can't be purchased.

It is not uncommon to see a product go end of sale earlier than intended if the manufacturer foresees supply issues or the end of production of a particular part - it ensures that there are sufficient spare parts to conduct warranty repairs going forward.

Some products go end of sale, very, very unceremoniously.
TVS-872XT-i5-16GB with 6*ST12000VNZ008 in RAID 6.
Backed up to a stack of a half dozen 'cold' external 12TB and 8TB HDDs - please back up your data, RAID is not the same as a backup!

Formerly TVS-463 with 4*WD60EFRX in RAID5, planning to reuse as an additional backup destination in the new year.

On third party websites it states discontinued so called customer service and was told it was no longer being sold. I am a student studying machine learning and based on my research x77 will work best for my needs. I was told to go for TS-882 but wanted to know if the future replacement x77A was worth waiting for ....

New Specs for x77A

Post by Trexx »

I would wait for ts-x77a and then pair with an NVidia GPU. You can do a ML work either via container station w/GPU or via VM with GPU passthrough.

I have tested both.

VM option you basically setup an Ubuntu instance, add NV drivers, then build out docker, containers, etc. It’s more work but more flexible vs CS containers for specific sw loads (TensorFlow), etc.

Thank you dolbyman! I fully agree as it's confusing to customers when not making that distinction.

By the way, both TS-877 and TS-1277 are still listed as being available on my market so they may be EoS from Qnap and US distribution but they're still available at some resellers in some parts of the world. Hurry up if you need one!
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!

A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.

All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!

X77 is now showing as 'end of life' on Span here in the UK...which I'm presuming means end of sale rather than actual EoL.

We will still support it with firmware updates. We will still offer tech support if there is a problem. If it is under warranty we will still honor the warranty.

Since we have a Qnap employee on board (QnapDanielFL), could you please let us know if there is a X77A or any other Ryzen successor planned in the near future?
For professional and private reasons, I want to make a big step up from the 253A to a 677, but not wanting to invest around 2kUSD for a 3-4 years old architecture...
Thanks
