I had to write a correction. We currently do not have a plan to update this series.

Any reason why QNAP took them off sales then?

Sad news...
:(

What should someone buy to replace a TS-x77 if needed?
I know of a few small businesses running TS-677/877 as their main Servers, 'cause the offered a lot bang for the buck.
TS-877 https://geizhals.de/?cat=WL-1446616
TS-h973AX https://geizhals.de/?cat=WL-1721479
TS-669l, 3GB (2x 3TB WD30EFRX; Raid1; online-, offdevice-, onsite-backup)
TS-453A, 4GB (2x 3TB WD30EFRX; Raid1; online-, offdevice-, offsite-backup)

That is more than disappointing.... :( :(

Is there anything in the QNAP lineup that would even be considered a somewhat even close replacement??

Not in desktop/tower form factor. TS-X77s are available as rack models.

Maybe an updated TS-X82 could come close in performance but the price wouldn't be...
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!

A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.

All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!

Not really... when you consider pricing...

e.g. our company is running a TS-677 with R7-1700/64GB and QM2-2P-384 with 2x 1TB Samsung 970 EVO (NVMe; RAID1; System & VMs) and 3x 1TB Samsung 860 EVO (Sata; Raid5; Backup) as local "fast/convenience Backup"
Backup-Data is then replicated to a very old TS-669l (2x 3TB HDD; Raid1) on Site and to an old TS-453 (2x 3TB HDD; Raid1) offsite via OpenVPN and six external 2TB, 2,5' USB 3.0 HDDs.

We're a small company ('bout 35 employees) and we don't need tons of storage space (=2,5'/3,5') drive slots.
We need fast, multicore CPUs, lot's of RAM and fast storage for VMs.

My ideal followup/replacement to the TS-x77 would have been a System based on Ryzen 3xxx/B550/128GB and 3x PCIe 4.0 8x Slots for adding fast NVMe-Storage-Addon-Cards as needed in a different cases supporting 0-16 additional 2,5'/3,5HDDs as needed.
The icying of the cake would have been ECC-RAM (optional) and (optional) redundant PSUs.

I need to add another 8-bay to my fleet, and disappointingly seeing this news right now. The TVS-872XT seems like the best option at the moment if you're willing to take about half the CPU power of the TS-877 in trade for 10GbE and thunderbolt upgrades. :/ That really hurts when using hardcore container station, docker, and virtualization station which is where 8-core Ryzen shines. Ryzen powa seems to be a thing of the past at this point in a tower QNAP line....and AMD is rocking in everything CPU right now (look at their stock price). Too bad in my opinion, QNAP would be smoking the tower competition if they would have followed their own lead when they went Ryzen. When I bought my first TS-877s and TS-1277s, I thought we were going places with higher powered tower NAS and couldn't wait for what was next. The TVS-872XT would be perfect for my application, with 10 GbE, NVMe, if it only had a new gen Ryzen powa.

That just made me delay my upgrade, 872 is is running on 8th gen intel, and i would wait for 10th gen intel then.

Ok. If not "refresh" than maybe new models some kind TS-h677, TS-h877, TS-h1277, TS-h1677.
It's all mine thoughts only. Hope model with 16 HDDs will have M.2 slots in it.

Bad thing in those TS-hx86 series is only two PCIe slots in comparison to three PCIe slots in TS-x77 models.

The most interesting question is imho still not answered...

Why did QNAP discontinue the TS-x77 Desktop NAS products at all?
Why didn't QNAP just put in Ryzen 2xxx CPUs, it's possible to refit them?
--> https://www.reddit.com/r/qnap/comments/ ... u_upgrade/

Even my roughly 3,5 year old Asus C6H motherboard can run Ryzen 3xxx...

Looks like QNAP also learned on how to disappoint their customers like Synology.

First I wanted to upgrade to 1282T3 but it was too damn expensive and it still has 7th Gen intel processors which is not worth.

All this months I waited for Ryzen upgrades and it’s not happening too.

Not sure if I wanna buy NAS box anymore 🙄

lots of racks lately. when the desktop ryzen refreshes coming?

Looks like you didn’t read the whole thread, QNAP is discontinuing all desktop models and they want only rack models on the market. I would suggest you to buy a rack at home for upcoming rack models 😂😊
