QNAP 672XT - Finder & Explorer paths on Thunderbolt and on network

Post by iagdotme »

Looking at getting a 672XT and connecting it via thunderbolt into my MacBook Pro.

In my office it will be connected via thunderbolt. I want to have all my documents, videos and photos on the NAS. I want to map those folders from my user directory onto the NAS. But what happens if I take my MacBook Pro downstairs and it's not connected via thunderbolt? I want it to see the same files on the NAS but this time over the network.

Won't Mac OS X complain that it can't see the files since the NAS is not connected via thunderbolt? It would be amazing if it magically could map the same files no matter if it's on Thunderbolt or network connection?

And what if I'm away from my house and not connected to the home network? What can I do then?

Thanks!
