TVS-872X M.2 SSD Compatibility list doesn't seem to align with specs??

Post by ll5k698dfg »

I just purchased a TVS-872X. I want to buy two 1TB M.2 SSD to use for First Storage Pool (QuTS OS, apps, VM). The specs say I require M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 x2; however, almost all of the SSDs listed on the compatibility list are for Gen3 x4 and no 1TB listed for Gen3 x2.

I'm new to this, so am I misunderstanding something?

k thanks for your reply.
Are there any guidelines on how to find/select the 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 x2?

Gen3 x4 lane SSDs should work with Gen3 x2 lanes, it will just halve the bandwidth. In real world use, it won't make a significant difference. I currently have 2 x ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1.0TB in my TVS-672N and it works without issues.

K thanks. I ended up getting the same model (but 2 x 2TB).
I decided I didn't want to lose half the bandwidth and ordered the QM2-2P-344. QNAP support confirmed QuTS supported it for boot, but they were mistaken (they remote connected and confirmed that there's a problem with QuTS supporting it right now).

I have a QM2-2P-384 with the 2 x 1.0TB ADATA SSDs and I was able to install the system pool on it. When I check the system pool I see apps on it and can migrate other apps on the HDD pool to SSD system pool on the QM2 card.

I was able to do the same - it worked fine until I restarted the NAS.
Curious if you are using QuTS or QTS? Maybe didn't affect QM2-2P-384?

QNAP updated my ticket and confirmed they resolved the problem:
The issue has been confirmed to be patched on FW h4.5.4.1758 build 20210812.

I assume (hope) that this is the fix for QM2-2P-344:

Release Notes:
QuTS hero h4.5.4.1771 Build 20210825
- After users restarted the NAS, QuTS hero would unmount storage pools that were created with SSDs installed on the QM2-4P-384 expansion card.
