Security and reliability

Post by drkim »

Hello

About Security
I must say the multiple and repeated attacks using exploit on QTS on QNAS NASes are making me quite hesitant to move to the QNAP platform.. (been using an old desktop as nas without issue for the pas 10 years , but I'm looking for something smaller and more energy efficient)
Assuming I'm only opening a port for plex to be able to communicate with the internet (using Q firewall, & my router), would the QNAP still be vulnerable to the past hack ?

About Reliability
On different vendors site, I've read many comment stating that 'home/ SB nas from Qnap like the TS-x53D/B etc lines rarely make it past 3 years..
Are those small embedded X86 bord system that unreliable?

bad advice ..a strong password and changed port does not help with exploit scanning bots...exposed QTS components are a bad idea

if you trust Plex enough to program secure, you can open a port or just live with tunneling via Plex serives (1mbit for free account or 2 for Plexpass)

Encapsulating Plex into a container to keep it secure, is another good idea
