Few questions regarding TS-932PX-4G 9 Bay

Post by shaun27 »

Hi all

Iv never owned a qnap product before i have only really dealt with synology (ds916+). got a few questions about the above product if anyone owns one and knows.

First question the 2.5inch drive bays is it possible sticking Seagate BarraCuda 4TB 2.5inch ST4000LM024 in their (not on Compatibility List) . I am looking at installing 2 of these if possible. I dont really need the expensive drives listed in Compatibility List as these will mainly be used for plex so will get very little use and also will they spin down when not in use?. I know theirs a setting to spin drives down in synology after x amount time not in use.

Second question this is more a general one regarding qnap os is it the same as synology its installed on a drive so for instance i can plug in ssd in 2.5inch and install it on that.

Many thanks

shaun.

All 32 series will be terrible at transcoding so I don't usually recommend this for plex.

On the QTS OS it runs from all the drives. Because the OS will run from both SSDs and HDD, the SSDs won't make the OS much faster. But for apps you can have them on SSDs and apps like Plex or HBS3 run better on SSDs, as do containers.
But I do not recommend this NAS for running the Plex app.

Me too, all TS-x32 series are NAS with ARM CPU and not recommend for plex.
It's recommend to buy a NAS with x86 or amd64 CPU.
