TL-D800S usable with third party HBA?

Post by KJaneway »

Hello,

I am interested in buying some storage expansion for my existing linux server. Now the TL-D800S Series catched my eye. I love them for the really nice looking case. Now the question arises whether I need the dedicated QNAP Controller (delivered with the Box QXP-800eS-A1164) in addition to some proprietary software to use that device, or
is it possibe to use a standard HBA with appropriate SAS Connectors (e.g. a LSI 3ware SAS 9205-8e) for just connecting the Drives installed in the TL-D800S to any exisiting Server?

Any help would be appreciated.
All the best
Martin

Seems like nobody has experience in that... Maybe I will just try it out and share the result. But it will take it's time :)

did you ever try this out?
I want to put an LSI SAS HBA (no raid) into my QNAP so i can connect up to 126 drives per channel.
I can setup a chia farmer in a container, and have a rather low power consuming money maker.
Or, one insane plex server. not sure which way i'll go yet.
