Time to replace the 469 Pro
Is it time to replace, had it since 2013 at home and primarily use if for file storage, a little streaming and surveillance but it no longer wants to upgrade some of the apps.
Not too sure which model to go for...any suggestions?
Thanks

Any 4 bay x86/64 should work for you...any ambitions for VMs or just storage and NVR ?

I know what NVR is but it's not a necessity

https://www.qnap.com/en/nas-migration
Here you can see your migration compatibility...just chose a current x86/64 NAS and it should be fine

Thanks
I almost went for the TS451+ but reading the reviews it seems the processor is prone to failure and drive bays too...maybe I'll wait for mine to fail.

Maybe I'll investigate a different brand this time round....I seem to recall my QNAP was affected by something where nothing installs, etc

Re: Time to replace the 469 Pro
I went from my old TS-469 Pro to a TS-473a.
Depending on your usage, it could be an alternative.
It is fairly powerful memory is upgradeable up to 64 gb, it has two built in NVME M.2 slots and two PCIe ports.
Only drawback is that for hooking up a display or doing Plex Transcoding you will need a video card, as there is no built in GPU (no big deal for me, but it is an extra cost to consider).
Also, it supports QuTS Hero for ZFS.
Hope this helps

That's very useful, thanks. I'm so used to the Qnap interface i'm questioning going to another brand.Gaudi wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 8:01 am I went from my old TS-469 Pro to a TS-473a.

Looking ahead I suspect my priorities are going to be storage and website, the website being my old old that ran on php 4, with a mysql DB....so it needs to be able to support that as it's reference only.
As for Streaming, that'll be less and less as the video files are already created and processing done at the TV end.
Lastly, Surveillance I need to replace my Foscam too as it's playing up but probably something I'll continue to keep it for.

When you mention website do you mean a site accessible from the internet? If so... be very very careful

I'm probably going to restrict access to inside only...I don't trust external.

Make that "probably" a "certainly/immediately" any direct remote access is data suicide.

Re: Time to replace the 469 Pro
I like the TS-473A. It is what I use running QuTS Hero.
But I think TS-464 is also worth considering.
It is great at transcoding as a plex media server because it has intel QuickSync for hardware transcoding. The CPU is still good even if not quite as powerful as TS-473A CPU. And since 473A does not have intel QuickSync, the 64 series should transcode better unless you add a GPU to the 73A series.
But if you want to run QuTS Hero, then the 64 series does not support QuTS Hero.
