Looks pretty straight forward.

Thanks for sharing!

Check this in settings to make sure it isn't checked:
  • Generate media index files during scans
Generate media index files during scans, this can take a long time
.

It processes every video file for a certain non-critical function...

Also, your write up is nice. I found it very frustrating taking my 870 apart but eventually upgraded too. On a side note, your post mentioned the existing i3... It's a celeron that's in there, not an i3.

Thank you for posting this guide, it is amazing. A lot better than the German one (I think it was)
The pictures are a great indication of what to do, I still haven't bought my Qnap device, though I think I decided on the TS-670 then I'll upgrade the CPU with a 3770K that I have in another computer.
I understand that people don't recommend the 3770K because of the thermal limit, but I should be able to add a few fans onto the heat sink of the CPU cooler which should cool it down.
Two 80mm fans on both side of the heat sink:
I will also replace the two 92mm fans on the back with Noctua NF-B9's which should make it a little quieter.

That's an excellent and detailed guide! Thank you. You might want to post it here as well in case this thread gets locked: http://forum.qnap.com/viewforum.php?f=97

I've just upgraded CPU in my 809U from the stock E7400 to an E7600, noted the factory heatsink paste was a tiny pea-sized patch. I've re-used the stock Qnap cooler with a dab of arctic silver paste. Threw in another 2GB RAM while the top was off.
The donor PC was an HP 8000 Elite desktop which has a nice wee CPU fan shroud that I cut down to fit to ensure slightly better cooling. https://goo.gl/photos/HGECBqEoYctv5SRXA

Plex streaming movie still consumes ~92% CPU temp sitting at around 66deg.
