QuFirewall and PLEX

Post by gece070 »

Hi everybody,
I intend to install the new QuFirewall but I fear to have problems with my PLEX server installed on the QNAP as I am not familiar at all with firewall rules.
- How should I configure QuFirewall so that I can access PLEX from my Apple TV on the LAN?
- How should I configure QuFirewall so that my friends can still have access to my PLEX from the outside WAN?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Any one have any answer to this. I have attempted to configure QuFirewall to allow connections via TCP plex port 32400 but it is still being blocked. If i disable QuFirewall then plex immediately becomes accessible on the WAN.

Anyone managed to get this working yet?

I am using the the "basic" level profile and this is not an issue. I do have this port forwarded on my router.

Sadly, there's nothing strange about this behavior of QuFirewall.

QuFirewall is a very immature product, and isn't really a firewall, it is more of a device blocker. You will need to configure QuFirewall to permit TCP/32400 from the IP addresses you wish to access your plex server.

All of your security should be performed on the perimeter (Internet router/firewall), the only secuirty on the QNAP should be related to user accounts and using the Network Access Protection settings.

My initial thoughts (which so far seem to be fairly accurate) on QuFirewall.

I have had Quefirewall installed since all this hassle with QNAP ransomware started. It has done nothing but slow down and prevent access to the admin area of plex I have removed and all is well again with Plex.. I am now concerned about Ransomware attacks without it installed (as per QNAP recommendations)

So I have PLEX server install on my NAS and continue to see what I believe are constant packets being blocked by QUFirewall whenever the app is started and running. I have no idea if they are valid attacks or something else. The NAS is in an OpenVPN/ExpressVPN tunnel.

Can anyone look at some log records to help debug?

Got the same behaviour. Seems Plex is communicating. Investigating firewall issues can be done by enable log and download it. Then use wireshark to open de download.

Thanks alot. Works as you said.

I duplicated predefined profile and add new rule to allow my subnet with protocol TCP and port 32400.
The most important is that the new rule must be before the rule that deny all!

Thank you

I have simply added what mentioned just above the Deny All rule like the pictures attached here and everything just started to work again.
I'm currently using the "Restricted security" profile which I have duplicated and edited adding that entry.
