PC Backup to NAS

Post by part deux »

I'm frustrated with Acronis, what worked for years is now failing. Every file it creates, ends up corrupted and fails incremental backup.

Is there a native app on Qnap I can use?

TS453 is reporting normal operations. Wireless network seems to be operating normally.

Any other backup apps I can use?

i use aomei backupper to backup from pc to nas.

other popular choices on the qnap community is things like veeam, Syncback, and probly some others.

not sure why your acronis is failing so badly. usually you would contact acronis and inquire why that is the case? :'

make sure after you first backup, to verify that the backup is good or not. always verify :'

Might as well throw my favorite pc to nas backup app into the mix. I use Macrium Reflect. They have a free version which is full featured. But as a retired developer, I have no problem buying a lifetime license to support good development.

I have no issues whatsoever with Macrium. Schedule it to create backups during the night and once you have your desired results, nothing to worry about.
cheers :)

Acronis customer support is nothing more than script readers. I asked for and received my money back. Internet is flooded with similar reports. Seems the 2021 version really messed the program up.

that video was posted like a week ago.

usually an english version of it would be released on the same day in the next couple of hours after. but this seems to be one of those videos where they did not seem to do an english video release :S (it happens sometimes)

i found an alternative video for backing up using veeam to a nas

I was referring to the English version but as I have been using Veeam for a number of years without any major issues I have no need for a tutorial as this time.
As an aside, I have one specific issue in that access relies on the use of the default admin account which given recent vulnerabilities is far from ideal. I haven’t checked if Veeam have resolved this.

I have Acronis True Image 2021 and a new HP PC with win 11. I was abel to Install Acronis there. I am using a QNAP TS-231p NAS. I was abel to build an Backup form my Sytem on the NAS. And I made an Rescue Media. After Booting from this media, I tried to restore from there. But From this version of the Acronis the NAS was not visible. Also the Network drives which I used to embed the Nas in Windwos, were not visible. The last point is understandable to me, because Windows was not loaded.
But I don't understand why when selecting the restore drives there are also points for NAS and network, but both remain empty.
Is there any one with an similar problem and an answer to it.
Thanks.
kind regards
Oliver Fuchs :)

You would have to ask Acronis.. could be an issue with the network drivers embedded in the rescue media

I used acronis and it never worked. When a PC failed the backups would not restore. So i changed my strategy. My PCs are windows and I can reload the OS for free since they are registered. I backup the data to my TS-453D, 8gb, 4x8tb raid 6. Was at TS-451+ that recently died. For backup of the data files I use Allway Sync. Each PC is set up as a user and has a home folder. Under that I put a backup folder. The files are backed up as they change with 5 older revisions saved in a sub folder. The number of retained versions is selectable as is the back scheme or you can keep changes for a set time period. I use as they change but you can have it scan on a schedule instead. It's great when my wife wants an older version. From there my brother has a server at his house and we both backup the backups to the others house. The PC manages the backup and the server is just the vessel. They have a free version for moderate use and a pro version that costs $30 for 1 PC and $16 for each additional. I bought PRO for 3 machines and use free for a few other low usage PCs. That is a one time cost and I have gotten frequent updates.
