Hybrid Backup
Hi All,
I have two new NAS Units and I have installed Hybrid Backup on both and for the last 10 days I have had both NAS units on the same site, with NAS 1 Backing up to NAS 2, with Smart Versioning on.
I have now taken NAS 2 off site and moved it to an external location, updated the IP and create on a Firewall a port forward so port 999 goes to 8899
I have just changed the Profile of the Server on NAS 1, and added the FQDN of the server and a Port Number for a firewall.
But now the backups fail and under the Advanced Settings, versions are no longer listed as it says that they Hybrid has to be installed on NAS 2, which it is already.
Any ideas?

Re: Hybrid Backup
Firmware versions? Hybrid backup versions? Screen shots of backup job setups?

Use RAID and external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced, and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.
NAS: TVS-882BR | F/W: 5.0.1.2346 | 40GB | 2 x 1TB M.2 SATA RAID 1 (System/VMs) | 3 x 1TB M.2 NMVe QM2-4P-384A RAID 5 (cache) | 5 x 14TB Exos HDD RAID 6 (Data) | 1 x Blu-ray

Re: Hybrid Backup
Both are on 4.3.3.0404
Hybrid Backup Sync v 2.1.171130
I had Smart Versioning Working, but since then I upgraded the Firmware on Both NAS and there was an update for the Hybrid Backup. I stupidly never did another backup after those updates, or before I removed the Second NAS to replace on a remote site.
On the first run of the backups with the updated profile, they failed.
I now have two of the four running and one has completed, but I don't think the versioning is working. Below are the screen shots on how one of the backup job is set up. The others are exactly the same on options, but obviously to a different destination.
This is the error that I am gettings - Which is odd as when both NAS units where on the same site, it was working perfectly.

I don't see where you change the port #.

Re: Hybrid Backup
I change the Port on the Source NAS within Hybrid Backup > Storage Spaces > Profile
That Port is a port on a Firewall, that then Forwards to the Destination NAS on 8899

Re: Hybrid Backup
So I can backup, I just can not use the versioning? It is very odd? Is there any other ports? I have 788 accepting both UDP and TCP.

Re: Hybrid Backup
Previous there was Backup station plus a Versioning app. These should not appear as installed.
Can't you just reinstall HBS?

Re: Hybrid Backup
I have done this on the destination NAS.
I think I will have to do this on the Source as well. But it is currently in use by 50 clients do I can't reboot it if that needs to be done.
I have just got two Single Drive QNAPs, that I am upgrading to 4.3.3 to see if I can install the Hybrid Backup Manager on and see it
So for Reference
NAS1 831X Onsite
NAS2 831X Remote
NAS3 TS-121 - Onsite
NAS4 TS-121 - Onsite
a:) I can do a backup between tNAS3 & NAS4 units with HB Installed
b:) Can I do one from the Current Source NAS1 to NAS3
c:) Can I do a backup using HB from one of those other NAS3 to the Remote NAS2
I will see what occurs

Re: Hybrid Backup
So I have done a few Test
NAS3 to NAS 4 > Works with Smart Versions on 8899
NAS4 to NAS 3 > Works with Smart Versions on 789
NAS1 to NAS 3 > Works with Smart Versions on 8899
NAS1 to NAS 4 > Works with Smart Version on 789
Here is the odd one
NAS3 ro NAS 2 > Works with Smart Versions on 788
So NAS1 to NAS 3 or 4 works fine, but not to NAS2.
I don't get why this does not work between the original pair.

Re: Hybrid Backup
On your original post you said port 999. You sure you are forwarding the correct port?

Re: Hybrid Backup
So, I'm getting in a muddle with so many NAS's
So I'm going to take Stock.
NAS01 (is performing File Sharing Duties). RTRR is not enabled in HB. On is onsite. Has a Profile to NAS02 using Port 788), Has a Profile for NAS03 on Port 789 and a Profile for NAS04 on Port 8899. All Profile have storage assigned and shows online. NAS01 can backup to NAS03 & NAS04 Smart Versions enabled.
NAS02 Offsite. RTRR is enabled on port 8899. The External Firewall accepts traffic on port 788 and Forwards to 8899
NAS03 Onsite. Has HB Installed, Has RTRR on Port 789. NAS01 can backup Data to this NAS Smart Versions enabled.
NAS04 Onsite. Has HB Installed, HAs RTRR on port 8899. NAS01 can backup Data to this NAS Smart Versions enabled.
I currently have 3 Jobs running, From NAS01 to NAS03 & NAS04, Doing an Initial Backup. This is slow as NAS03 & NAS 04 are slow little single Drive Systems.
I also have a Job from NAS03 backing up to NAS02, with Smart Versions enabled. It is a small test backup of 12GB, but it is working.
I am wondering if there has to be a minimum response time for the Smart Versions to appear? As is I notice briefly the message 'ensure that HB is installed on the remote NAS' and then the versions\smart version information appeared, this occurred on Between NAS03 & NAS04 when I was setting a test backup job?

Re: Hybrid Backup
RTRR can send to itself, test on IP address 127.0.0.1 to check it's on.
