File Sync on 2 QNAP

Post by Ioannis »

Hello

(little knowledge of Linux)
i have a folder where i have my daily backup files i will like to copy the friday backup files to another qnap
and i will like to add this to a script and run it on a schedule ones a week
i have managed to copy the files the manual way, with ssh session
but i can't find a way to establish permanent trust between the 2 qnap's so i can bypass the authentication of the ssh
is there a way to do this, or to i have to install something to allow me to use username and password on a script.
and where i can find this software.

thank you very much for your help

Much easier way is to just do remote replication on a scheduled basis:

https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/tutorial ... n-qnap-nas

This shows how to do it in Backup Station, but it is also supported in Hybrid Backup Sync.

Thank you for the reply
i know and i use this way of replication.
but i need to do a file replication not a folder replication
well maybe replication is not the right word
i want to schedule ones a week to copy some large files from different folder to another qnap

It's not possible to "bypass" SSH authentication, but it IS possible to create what's known as a "passwordless" SSH login by saving the public SSH RSA key of your source NAS as an authorized key on the target NAS. This means you can SSH (or SCP) from the source to the target without needing to enter the target account password.

On a regular distro, this would done with the 'ssh-copy-id' program. But QTS does not include this, so the keyfile has to be copied manually (use SCP) from the source NAS, then appended to the [authorized_keys] file on the target NAS.

If this is something you'd like to try, please advise.

We're only unpaid community volunteers here, and make no money from your purchase of 9 NAS, or from providing you with free support and bespoke solutions. At best, we might get a warm, fuzzy feeling that we helped a stranger with a problem.

If you'd like to complain to someone, please create a support ticket with QNAP.
