Recovery Advice. Please be nice :)

Post by device01 »

Hi I'm hoping someone can provide some advice.

My situation:

I have accidently deleted all of my 20years worth of photos. Yes it was an accident.

I followed a link here: https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/faq/arti ... red-folder

I created a new test shared folder inside my default shared folder (parent folder). Then i deleted the new test shared folder with the box ticked to delete all files. This proceeded to delete all files/folders of the parent folder!

The reason why i followed this is because my default shared folder wasn't reclaiming space after file deletions.

This is my fault and i may have failed to follow the instructions properly.. (and I shouldn't have thisthat after a 12-hour work shift!)

Unfortunately i dont have recycled bin enabled, snapshot or a backup! A great lessons indeed

My questions:

1. Will the official QNAP guide help me to recover all files including folder structure and names? https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/tutorial ... n-qnap-nas Does Qrescue fixes and restore the file names and folder structure? in my situation?

2. Will this guide delete or corrupt my 7z files. I use 7z to zip and password protect important files.

3. I travel overseas tomorrow (for 1month) and can't commit for the long haul of scan and recover. Is it safe to switch off my QNAP NAS while I'm away and then go through the process?

4. Do other recovery applications impacts the Qnap official guide? Im currently doing a deep scan using EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard and it's picking up a lot of my files (unstructured with generic names). I plan to stop this as i need to travel tomorrow.

As you can imagine my situation is stressful like others. And this will be on my mind while I'm on vacation.

Any advice or answer to my questions is greatly appreciated.

It safe to switch off the NAS yes (any NAS usage has the potential to destroy more files)...if the files were of any value, bring the NAS to a recovery specialist after your travels
