Restore failed: Failed to locate destination folder.

Post by Horst_NASe »

After having messed around with chown and chmod on a NFS share, my data in the respective folders on my NAS HS-251 is gone.
So I tried to restore it from a backup (external drive connected via USB) using Hybrid Backup Sync (HBS) 3. Unfortunatelly the restore with HBS 3 fails with the error message:

Code: Select all

Schweregrad	Datum	Uhrzeit	Benutzer	Quellen-IP	Anwendung Kategorie Inhalt
Fehler	2022/09/22	10:15:04	System	127.0.0.1	Hybrid Backup Sync	Job Status	[Hybrid Backup Sync] Failed to complete Restore job: "Restore 1". Failed to locate the destination folder. Ensure that the destination folder exists or select another destination.
It does not matter what I choose as destination folder. It always gives this error.

config:
  • HS-251 Firmware 4.3.6.250
  • HBS3 Version V3.0.210916
Any advice?

Thanks.

Could be a permission issue how about a new share with working permissions ?(for the restore)

As far as I remember the destination folder must match the origin folder from which the backup was created.
Is this folder present at NAS?

The share is a standard folder (I guess) called "Multimedia". Originally, there were the subfolders "pictures" and "videos". These were both gone after messing around with permissions. Now, after a reboot, the folder "multimedia" contains only the empty subfolder "pictures".
I also tried to restore from the backup the path "/Multimedia/pictures" to the corresponding path on my NAS "/Multimedia/pictures" with the aforementioned error.
Here, are the permissions for the "Multimedia" folder:

Code: Select all

ls -l
lrwxrwxrwx  1 admin administrators   25 2022-09-22 10:53 Multimedia -> CACHEDEV1_DATA/Multimedia/
Interestingly, my old subfolders (marked with arrow) are still present in the "Multimedia" folder though empty and not visible from e.g. "FileStation":

Code: Select all

[/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA] # ls -l
total 92

Do you have any advice how to accomplish this?

On the other hand there is the option to restore the data to an arbitrary, user-defined folder. But this does not work, even when creating a completely new folder.

No, I ususally do not run backup jobs, I am syncing to external devices for easily accessing at foreign devices.
At my end is no need for a backup.

I am running backup jobs only at a test NAS and will check how to restore to a different location.

Regards

Edit: Sorry to say (not really) , but restore was completed without any issues.
To be honest the data was only abt. 1.4GB, about 500 files (pictures, text files), but restore was done to a different location.
Runs absolutely smooth.

Ok, thanks. Do you know a way to reset (deactivate) the Multimedia folder, as shown for a newer firmware here: https://www.qnap.com/de-de/how-to/faq/a ... ia-console?
