Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
Hi,
WOW my qnap does not see homes folders in a distant Almalinux backup server over ssh.
I don't want to fill up my / partition using /var/ or like.
Any definitive and short solution using ssh ?

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
My topic does not involve 2 qnap nas, but my qnap nas towards an Almalinux backup server. So it's about showing /homes through ssh, no question about rtrr.
I saw many people are concerned by this question since years now. Amazed that no answer seems to have been given yet.

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
May if you tell use the directory structure and the used rsync command an answer is possible.
Currently I do not use rsync, only rtrr for replication from NAS to NAS.
How is the Almalinux target connected to NAS, nfs, SMB, FTP, ...?
Regards

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
Your QNAP system can only "see" what has been configured on the remote system. This sounds ore like a problem / configuration issue on the Almalinux box.
What does any of this have to do with filling your filesystems?

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
No, there is no permission problem. This connexion is used by other rsync able machines because this is a backup server.
No, with rsync connexion, the qnap nas should, and can, see what's usually available through a normal ssh connexion, so the entire root system.
For a new profile in Linux, as a standad user, you can see everything, but not do eveything. Here, I just can't see /home, and it's not normal.
I tried with chmod -R 777 ; the same that confirms.
I tried to build another profile within the Qnap nas, using admin backup server credentials, and it's the same: I can browse the entire server, but /home is not there.
There are numerous cases like mine over the Internet.

which folder do you complain about, homes or home?
These are different folders at NAS, so please specify your issue.
Do you use rsync in push or in pull mode (push from NAS or pull from Almalinux)?
Again, please tell us more about the rsync command you are using.

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
My qnap does not see /home in distant Almalinux backup server, where "home folders" are in /home.
The rsync command i'm using is unidirectional backup task using rsync mode within the nas towards the backup server.
What I read online seems to indicate qnap nas don't allow to see /home in distant servers by design, whatever they are, but I did not see any straight answer to that.
My backup server is meant to receive, not pull; the difference is the need to activate ssh servers everywhere around; thus this qnap uses passwords...

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
Hm, next question, which app at the QNAP does not see the /home folder in distant server?
Regards
Edit: How is NAS and Almalinux connected? Did you mount a share from Almalinux to NAS (nfs, SMB)?

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
Sorry, now I totally lost...
Thread headline contains "Rsync", now you mentioned HBS3.
So remote Almalinux is created in HBS3 as a storage space with type rsync server?
So you doing backups from local NAS to remote Almalinux?
Where in this game is now the (remote) /home folder you cant see at NAS?
Please give a full description of your backup scenario and when/where/at which action/... the remote /home folder is missing.
Regards

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
Maybe some screen captures would help. I still feel this is 100% a configuration/permission issue on the Almalinux box.

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
Ok,
in HBS3, I created a storage space, and rsync distant server. I gave IP, port, user and password, of my Almalinux backup server.
Then I created a sync task using this storage space. When creating it, I could not see /home .
There is no permission issue in my Almalinux server, because it works with every other machine.

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
Ok, I give up. The description is to unclear.
I did the following at my TS-473A:
I created two HBS3 jobs, the first for pushing a sync from local /homes folder to a remote rsync server (different NAS connected via rsync), the second jobs pulls the remote /homes directory to TS-473A.
At both devices I can see and access the complete content of the replicated /homes folders.
The difference in job type is selecting source/target is different in jobs.

Re: Rsync does not display 'homes' directory on destination server
This is not what I did.
I'm trying to create a HSB3 task in order to send data from qnap to my backup server. When I must choose the destination (Almalinux), I can not see /home
