full disk backup pc to qnap - windows 10

Post by MaCos »

what is the best method to backup a whole disk of PC - Windows 10 with QNAP ??

i tried qsync but ignoring the fact that you can't choose an entire disk but only folders.

it was slow and much more dangerous thing is only bidirectional.

I'm looking for something one way.

HBS, on the other hand, has another flaw, it doesn't let you choose the PC as the source, but only as the destination.

has the one-way function but in the opposite direction to what I want.

I'm looking for advice.

thank you

Best way to do a complete backup is an offline backup.
Shutdown PC and start it with a boot media with clonezilla.
Then you can write a compete disk image via network to a share at NAS.
I did this several times and also a recover to a different media (i.e. replacing the HDD in PC with a SSD).
All other stuff, which runs online, is usually not backing up all you need.
My be VEEAM can be an option, but I am not familiar with VEEAM, just heard a lot positive about it.

I use veeam daily. and many other backup systems.

but in this solution I wanted to understand if we can do everything with what qnap has to offer.

from what I understand. seems to be missing a piece.

qnap does not offer a tool. to save data from PC to qnap.

qsync comes close but doesn't completely solve my question.

Well, if its "only" data you want to save (not the entire system), then you can use HBS3. My understanding of your question was how to save the complete PC.
You need to setup a "storage space" in HBS3 (i.e. remote SMB server).
Then you can choose this as a source for a backup and destination is a local shared folder at NAS (or an external device).

You need to create a sync job instead of a backup job.
