Synology 215j to QNAP ts464 data migration
Hi. I’m sure this question answered somewhere. I’ve googled how to do this and tried to closely follow the instructions I’m guessing my lack of experience understanding porting and addresses may be the issue. I get to the point of setting up a task for the Synology and and it tries to connect to the QNAP - then I get an error in connecting. Has anyone got a really clear idiots guide?

If you get an error on the Syno ..probably best to ask in the Syno forum
If you get an error on the QNAP..probably best to post the actual error.

When I go to setup the rsync server account settings and input my logon including the passcode - when I click apply the box changes from multiple dots to only 2.

Ah. Think I’ve figured that but. It automatically hides number of dots. Have generated a common logo for both of the NAS and a folder to send the data to in the QNAP. But when I try to send the data the Synology gives the message that there may be an issue with destination (QNAP) back up settings

That's a screenshot (you don't need a camera for those) of the syno, you said you had an error on the QNAP

Re: Synology 215j to QNAP ts464 data migration
The setup of the login for the QNAP password starts with a dot doe each letter then when you apply the setting the password changes to 2 dots. It think now that’s just cosmetic whilst still saving the correct password. It’s obviously not that as an issue. The screenshot is indeed the error message on the syno but it is saying there may be issues setting up the ports etc on the QNAP as the syno isn’t getting a response or connection from the QNAP.

Unless you a running a firewall on the QNAP, ports don't matter LAN internal
I dint get the 'dot' thing..hence asking for screenshots..do you mean the masking of passwords?

Yes masking but not just by using dots for each digit/letter but by also chopping it down to just 2 dots after the setting is applied. I’ll keep reading on the port setting etc. worst case I need to set up cloud backup anyway so could just go via that route although that’ll be soooo much slower.
