hello. I am trying your utility out (awesome) using the GUI and no matter what file I choose or what destination, it is saying I/O Error, Cannot read source or destination, even though they are both correctly chosen. Any help?

Hello
What OS do you use ?
Can you execute it in command line with "-i INPUT_FILE -o OUTPUT_FILE -v" parameters ? You should have much more details.
Your error sounds like a permission error, are you sure you can read or write where you want ?

-k is deprecated, use "-pass pass:XXX" or just wait for openssl to prompt for password without option.
But i can't help much with that command, i do not use Backup Job from HBS (i use "Duplicati" tool) so i don't know if there is a trick to use openssl in that context (for example, maybe the password use by HBS is not the one you set, maybe it's derivated from it).
PS : did you set any form of compression in HBS ? Because maybe you need "-z" in openssl command if it's compressed.
Yours java tool works im this case :) even if it is local backup

Hi,
I have the same problem in Windows10 Pro 64bit for the visualization of source and destination buttons and I used the workaround of resizeEnable dummy file. However the tool works very well and it's very awesome.
In last days I've had the need to decrypt some files in my Android smartphone, so my questions are: Is it possible to launch jar in Android? Or has anyone ever thought to make a porting creating the mobile application (as far as I know the Android app are written in java like the hybrid_backup_sync_decipher tool)?
Regards.

It's an idea i already had some time ago. The "core" app should be portable quite easily on Android, but UI should be developped from scratch. If you want to start a related project, i would be happy to help or test it, but for now, i can't manage to develop it on my own, it requires too much free time.

I wrote a couple of Android apps a lot of years ago but I was younger with much time to spend :)
Now I should study again almost from scratch and I have less time to dedicate but I could try... If I need your help (only for "core" code, of course), how can I contact you?

You can contact me directly by GitHub (by issues) if you have any problems, or you can find links on my KeyBase (https://keybase.io/yoannttz) if you need to talk.
It's good to see people ready to help to improve this little app :)

Hello
First try to use the latest version here : https://github.com/Mikiya83/hbs_decipher/releases
Then, if it keeps failing, use it with command line if you can, add "-v" option to get more details on errors.

Hey Mikiya,

I downloaded the latest version but it still fails.

I know this is a really dumb question, but how do I run this tool through command line???

Hello
The easiest way is to copy your encrypted file in the same folder than my tool.
You can find tuto to open a command prompt on Windows (for example : https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-open-co ... pt-2618089 ).
In this command prompt, go to the folder where you have the files (change current folder with "cd FOLDER_NAME", go back with "cd .." and change drive with "D:" or whatever).
Here you can use :

Code: Select all

java -jar hybrid_backup_sync_decipher_1.4.2.jar -v -i "ENCRYPTED_FILE_NAME" -o "PLAIN_FILE_NAME"
You should get some error details, send them here or on github.

Hey,

I ran the command and I get this message: https://gyazo.com/d08eb4dc207a3b2cce39788b9aa3e59d

The encrypted file that I'm testing with is a video file name " IMG_0195"

You'll see that file in the folder within the screenshot

Try with ".\IMG_0195" instead, my bad.
