One Touch Copy - 2 devices

Post by Silki11 »

Hi,

I am trying to get one touch copy to back up from two different USB devices , 2 phones.

If I manually setup the One Touch Copy (Second option) I have to set the DIRs for source so this wont work as the DIRS may be different.

The SmartImport option sounds good but does it put all the files it finds into one DIR on the NAS ??

Hi

Looked at this last night and I think I have a workaround

Im now usung the Dir option on one touch copy, it's the one that creates a dated folder for each import . . When it asked for a source I selected root . . And after testing it now backs up the entire contents of two different drives into their own dated folders.

Not ideal as a differential backup with its own destination folder set by device would be ideal but it works and means we have an easy fast backup option.

Old thread, I know. But as a reference, my solution to this problem was to utilize the "External Drive" instead of "One Touch Copy".
I set it up like this: (translated from Swedish, so translations might not match options and button exactly correct)
Create New Job
Select Volume
Check "Map by ID"
Choose "From external to..."
Press "Next"
Select your source and target folder and add it to the list.
Select "Scheduled backup"
Select "Auto-Backup"
If you prefer, also check the "Eject volume when job is done"
Name it and continue

If you, like me, want to know when things have been performed. Add an "Alarm Notification" in the Notification Center with a rule that matches the name of your external device/volume and sends you push-notifications (or the notification of your choice).

The difference from One Touch Copy is that the backup is carried out automatic when the device is connected to the NAS. No need to push a button for it.
Here are the docs for "External Backup"
http://docs.qnap.com/nas/4.1/Home/en/in ... backup.htm

In short, what I just do when this is setup, I just connect my USB drive to the NAS (Front USB is configured as normal USB port)
I get a Push message to my phone that Device is connected
I get a Push message to my phone that backup Job X has started
I get a Push message to my phone that backup Job X has ended
I get a Push message to my phone that Device is disconnected.
I can then unplug my USB drive safely.
I love the push notifications!
