Hi all
I just got my TS-251+ with 2x4TB HGST drives. Primarily using it to stream music to my KEF LS50 Wireless speakers, occassional streaming of HD movies to my TV and of course as a backup for my important data files.
I have an old D-Link DNS320 NAS with 2x2TB drives. I would like to use this as a backup for specific folders on my QNAP NAS.
The first question is:
1. How do I connect the QNAP to the D-LINK NAS? My router's (Asus RT-AC87u ports are all full). Can I do a LAN connection (using LAN2 on the QNAP to the LAN port on the DLINK, or via USB etc?)
2. Assuming I solve question 1, how or what app would you recommend to be able to selectively backup folders from my QNAP to the DLINK, better yet on a schedule?
Thanks so much for the help!

I have the same question, with similar equipment. How do I connect a DNS-323 to one of the ports on the TS-453A?
TIA

Re: Backup TS-251+ to a D-Link DNS 320
why to a different port ?
do you want the nas to connect in a different subnet ?
if not ..just plug them into the same switch

Re: Backup TS-251+ to a D-Link DNS 320
Please forgive the noob questions and comments.
1. I assumed it would be faster if the DNS 323 was connected direct to the TS 453A.
2. All the ports on the switch/router are filled.
3. What is the intended use of the four ports on the TS 453A?
4. Is it possible to configure one or more ports as an extension of the router?
Thanks,

Re: Backup TS-251+ to a D-Link DNS 320
it is only faster if the other subnet is busy ..otherwise it does not matter
if the network is not busy just get an additional or larger switch and all should be good

FIGURED IT OUT!!
These QNAP devices have between two and four LAN ports. They have the functionality to extend your primary router as a virtual switch.
INSTRUCTIONS
Voila! Now you have between one and three additional ports (virtual ports) from your router.

- 1. In your QNAP device, go to "Network and Virtual Switch", select "Advanced" to visualize the "Virtual Switch" dialogue.

those are switched by cpu .. so depending on qnap system load, can bog up the transfer speed..so use with caution
